I’m a D.O. ms3 interested in peds or med/peds in the northeast region, wondering if submitting an excellent COMLEX over a pretty decent USMLE step 1 to programs would be a smarter way to go, especially for the “top” tier programs. Even though most would "accept" comlex, would it be better to send usmle (or both?) even if it is not as good? Thanks.

i did very well on steps 1 and 2 of COMLEX, and did average on both steps 1 and 2 of USMLE (but much better on step 2), and it seemed to impress interviewers that i took all 4 exams and did decent. we'll see how much it helped come match day, but i would submit all your scores... when it comes to comparing applicants, i think it helps to show that you did well on both exams... then there's no question whether or not you are comparable to an MD applicant.

Submit both..you will be happy you did

I took COMLEX I and II and USMLE I. I decided against taking USMLE II and have found out that places I applied to do not require it. I think USMLE I helped me get interviews at some places that screen using Step I scores. Also, if you can afford to take them all and pass them, it cannot hurt you, even if there is discrepancy between COMLEX and USMLE scores. Afterall, they are different tests. Best of luck.
