Which Secondaries Have a deadline from the time you open it? I know that there is an unwritten two -week rule, but do any schools have an official rule that a secondary must be turn within X number of weeks?

UCSD has a 30-day window for MD applicants. I believe UCI does as well.

For Rush, you only have 30 days once you create your account on the supplemental site.

I don't really understand why this is even a question. Are you deciding which schools to apply to based on if you will have to complete the secondary within 4 weeks of receiving it? It's already not early in the cycle, how much time to you plan on spending on your secondaries?!

Or are you just curious? That's not a crime, I'm just wondering, that's all.

Agreed with Irish, if you can't submit secondaries within a month idk what is going on :

What if your AMCAS applicaton hasn't been verified yet and it's already the end of August? Add another few weeks or so till you get the secondary applications from schools. By the time you fill them out and send them back, you are now looking at the end of September. By the time you are complete with the schools it could be end of October. Is that considered being late in your opinion, or just par for the course? Does this put an applicant with a boarderline MCAT score (28) at risk for the application cycle for allopathic schools?

Michigan State says the deadline is two weeks from receiving it.

can schools see when you have accessed a secondary? also, does it matter if you take a while to complete a secondary (more than a month), or does only the absolute month you turn it in matter?

Absolutely that applicant is at risk.

+1. I treated them all like they had a 48 hour time limit. There were a few that took me a while to get in, but the majority were submitted within a day or two.

I guess this thread is a good place for this question. Did you (and everyone else here) make that much of an effort for each secondary? I see people worry and proofread their essays and it makes me worried because I mostly just spoke my mind, checked for spelling and grammar, and then submitted. I didn't really have the time to make everything sound cute and eloquent like my personal statement just because I'm late as it is. I don't know, it feels like my essays will be underwhelming compared to my competition.

I took just as much care with my secondaries as I did with my primary. It didn't take as long though because, for the most part, secondaries are direct questions and I find it much easier to write answers than to write an essay trying to sell myself/say why I want to be a physician.

I also pre-wrote a lot of secondaries in June/July and all I had to do was copy and paste (plus proof-read one last time) and hit submit. A lot of secondaries (like Loyola's) are long and have several essays that you can re-use/tweek a little for other schools.

I just kind of spoke from the heart and didn't spend too much time on them. I didn't spend weeks on it like I did my P.S.
