The New Yorker has plenty of articles (politics, culture, humor, fiction etc) and many here have recommended it (along with The Economist and others) as one of the best sources of outside reading to improve VR score.

My question is which sections should you read? I'd imagine the humor section is pretty useless along with a few others.

Instead of rehashing a semi-controversial debate, I'll just say you should look at this thread and determine if you actually want to spend your time reading random articles. I personally think it is an entire waste of time unless your MCAT is 2+ years away.

I have been reading the New Yorker consistently and read the blogs section or click on any random article and read it quickly to get the author's view on the subject. Also, I go on any blog site, like slate.com and just try to understand the author's view point and main idea of the passage. I noticed my reading comprehension has gone way up, but it's important to once in awhile take a practice verbal test to see how you are doing (in case you have a lot of time before the MCAT.)
