Should I get a bachelor's degree before pharm school? If so, which do you think will be more beneficial to me Biology or Public Health?

for some schools it makes you look better, others have told me that it makes no difference. Id say check with the schools that you are thinking about applying to and see what they say.

edit: id also look at the classes for biology and public health and see which one follows the basic pre-pharm curriculum the closest and choose that one unless you really prefer one over the other.

The #1 thing for picking a bachelor's degree major is your INTEREST in the subject. If you are more interested in biology, then pick biology. If you are more interested in public health, then pick public health. I've known people to get into professional schools with English and History majors (they did complete the prereqs).

As lolng as you complete the prereqs, then it doesn't matter.

why not do the prereqs in 2-3 years... apply... and see if you get in... if not get a bachelors and apply again?

why dont u apply directly into pharm school? and if u must do bachlors - go for biology; not that it really matters, but it'll help u a little when u finally get to pharm.

Get a bachelor's degree if you really want that degree, not as eye candy for application. The whole shift by schools toward degree-holding applicants is simply a by-product of an increased applicant pool where people with a degree loaded with difficult science courses look great. But, don't waste money getting a degree for the sake of getting a degree.

Like the previous members have mentioned. Try to apply now while taking classes to fulfill a degree just in case you don't get in the first time.

I personaly just recently decided to get a degree, even though I could apply this year based on completeing my prereqs. Why? because I know my science GPA sucks right now, Why waste money applying to many schools, just praying i get an interview, when I dont have anything to make me stand out. I don't have any Pharm- experience and wont have had O chem and other crucial classes by the time i would need to take the PCAT, So I decided that by me waiting and working on a degree I can make myself an all around better applicant and improve my chances. I am getting a degree in Rehabilitation studies because I think it will be very interesting and possibly a back up career if Pharmacy doesn't work out. A degree in biology is very common it won't make you look any better while a degree in something different yet relevant may make you stand out.
