Which stage of your medical career will a prestigious program do the most good (in terms of a surgical path)?

Undergrad
Medical School
Intern Year
Residency
Fellowship
Attending

We all heard the talk about weather going a prestigious route actually matters. Lets assume it does for a moment and you get to pick one part of your medical career be in a prestigious program and all the others to be in average status (state ugrad, med school etc). Which one would do the most good, give you the most opportunities to accelerate faster than others in your track etc.

Thanks

I would vote residency or fellowship.

Not that I'm in any of those stages yet so take this with a grain of salt.. but in high school you work hard to get into a good college, in college you work hard to get into a good medical school, in medical school you work hard to get into a good residency/fellowship so that ultimately you can get a good job.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that when a hospital is hiring you they don't care much what you did in medical school the same way once you're in medical school, no one cares what you did in undergrad with the exception of publications I guess..

Residency/fellowship is what people hiring you are going to look at so that's why I would vote it's the most important since your residency/fellowship will be the face of your resume for the rest of your life.

Fellowship = Residency > Med School >> Undergrad

They say that the last thing you did is most pertinent...

If follows that residency > med school.

However, even with that adage in mind, I still feel fellowship < residency.
