Which tests should I take?

I am an OMS2 and am wondering which tests I should take for Step 1 and 2. It looks like class of 2018 will be first year for a single match so trying to figure out if I need to take both USMLE/COMLEX to be more competitive.

As a DO who just matched ACGME EM, I would suggest that you take both Step 1 and Step 2. Only taking COMLEX will limit you.

I agree with @dntke1518. I'm also a DO who just matched. I think any DO who wants to put themselves in the best position going forward with the merger should take it. There will always be outliers who do match without it but I imagine their number of interviews was limited by the fact that they only took COMLEX.

Also a DO that just matched - take them both. Not only does not having it limit you with what places you can apply for residency, but it might limit you from getting away rotations too since a lot require your USMLE Step 1 score to even apply for a rotation. Study hard and do well on the USMLE and you can match MD EM.

Also a matched DO, I agree with everything above, if you want to be competitive for MD programs you need to take both. My experience was that a strong step 2 was most important. I didn't meet any DO's on the EM interview trail who took only COMLEX, and my friends who applied to other ACGME specialties with only COMLEX did not get much love.
