So, everyone says that networking is important. But rather than spread myself thin and join tons of organizations that I have little interest in (something I did in undergrad), I wanna pick just one, and be a moderately active member.

So far, I've narrowed down my choices to: AphA-ASP (oldest; general; student chapter), ASPH (health systems), NPA (Nebraska Pharmacy Association), and the Phi Delta Chi fraternity.

Since I don't have that much experience in pharmacy (I got my first internship position a few weeks ago), I'm kinda torn on which route to do down. To those who have been involved in any of these organizations, how would you weigh in? How do I know if I would be a good fit for, say, a professional fraternity, as opposed to a more 'political' organization?

I think it depends on what you want to get out of an organization and what your professional goals are. I was a member of both APhA and ASHP though out school. To me, APhA seemed a better fit for those wanting retail, while ASHP is more important if you want to work in a hospital and/or do a residency. I'm not familiar enough with Nebraska pharmacy to know how active NPA is; however, state pharmacy can be a great thing as well.

I didn't join the fraternity in my school and thus my experience with frats is limited. I would imagine they would be a good way to network with others in your class; however, the same could be said for a more "political" organization as well.

Easy choice, definitely not PDC... 🙂. Just join which ever group has a big presence locally, allowing you to network. NPA sounds good if they have local monthly meetings and you already made the mistake of not joining KY, so let's not make another dumb mistake here.

I love this response, just on principle 😀

If you want to network then Phi Delta Chi is the best way to go. Never liked what APhA or ASHP brought to the table. Don't make the same mistake as moolman 😎

You don't need any org to network, but I'd pick ASHP. Was most relevant to me (inpatient) and most all our professors/admins were involved in it.
