So I am taking classes this summer (August MCATer)... If I submit my AMCAS after I finish three classes (August 9th or so) my GPA will potentially increase .03 points... i know there isnt much of a difference between a 3.82 to 3.85... but does having lets say a 3.64 with an early AMCAS look better than a 3.67 and an AMCAS that's submitted mid August???

This is confusing me... My MCAT score won't be available until October, so if I get my LORs and secondaries to the schools before my MCAT scores what's the difference in submitting my AMCAS in June or August?

Thanks

No big difference still 3.6

You should apply early as possible...I dont really see a big difference🙂

Apply as early as possible. 0.3 points is not a lot to add to your GPA. What I would suggest is, when you do finally get your grades from the summer, update the schools with them. I sent out several updates throughout the application cycle and they were all added to my file.

Good luck!

I would apply before your classes are done and then send an update letter with your secondaries to tell them your summer classes and grades. True, you couldn't get interview invites until your August MCAT scores come out, but at least everything else will be done early.

From my experience they want your app complete with the scores before they will even look at it. Med schools will put your app on hold until then. So it wouldn't matter if you wait to submit. Just be sure you submit before the MCAT scores come out in October.

This is true, but keep in mind that it will probably take a couple of weeks for AMCAS to verify your application and release it to schools. The schools will contact you about secondaries a few weeks to a few months later, then it will take time to write the essays and send them back. And you will need to get LORs sent, which depending on your school, may eat up some time too. Plus there are peak application months when every step of the process will take a little longer.

Thanks for all the replies... I think there may be a way to increase my GPA to a 3.7 before August 10th... If this is possible I think I will wait... If I can't, I guess I should just try to get it in as early as possible so i don't have to rush doing secondaries...

This sounds like a good plan. The 3.7 would definitely be worth the wait. If that's not possible, send it in ASAP!

I am in a similar position...kind of anyways! My school has two summer sessions which run from June 12-July 14 and July 17-August 18. During those sessions, I am taking 3 science classes. Although the classes are a pre-med requirement, taking them and doing well will greatly boost my Science GPA (I think anyways based on my rough calulations) closer to the 3.4 range. My AO GPA is a 4.0.

I know the person on this thread only had a slight GPA jump but for me, would it be worth it to wait and submit the AMCAS application after at least two of my three classes are finished or should I just submit it early, as everyone seems to be saying that there is a distinct advantage, and just send my upgraded transcripts later? I know that we don't receive secondaries until mid july-august but I am just concerned about not getting any secondaries to begin with because my Science GPA won't be that high compared with others. This is my first time applying and I guess I am just stressing that I won't get any secondaries somehow! What do you guys think?

Generally speaking, a 0.03 difference in GPA can make a huge difference to admissions committees when they are reviewing your application.

you've GOT to be kidding me. I highly doubt that.
