Hey All,

So far I've been accepted into 2 post bac programs-Mercer University and GeorgeSquared ABS program. I am still waiting on PCOM and LECOM, but I want to start planning now just in case I do not get accepted/waitlisted to the latter 2 programs. I'm trying to figure out which program would be better to attend. I'm URM and VA resident.

Mercer University Pre-Clinical Sciences:
Fall Courses: (15 credit hours in total)
BMS 610 Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics (5 credit hours)
BMS 611 Human Immunity (5 credit hours)
BMS 611 Molecular Cell Biology (5 credit hours)

Spring Courses (16 credit hours in total)
BMS 620 Human Physiology (5 credit hours)
BMS 621 Human Development (5 credit hours)
BMS 622 Microbial Pathogenesis (5 credit hours)
BMS 623 Preclinical Sciences Capstone (1 credit hour)

However, this is their inaugural class and of course if your not a GA resident then Im sure there are no linkages, as Mercer SOM only accepts GA residents-but curriculum looks tempting.

GeorgeSquared ABS program:
Fall Courses:
Cellular and Molecular Physiology (4 credits)-Biochemistry
Biostatistics and Epidemiology (3 credits):
Cell Biology & Microscopic Anatomy (3 credits):-Histology
Biomedical Career Pathways (1 credit):

Spring Courses:
Fundamentals of Physiology (5 credits):
Introduction to Human Anatomy (3 credits):
Physician and Society (1 credit):
Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) or Dental Admissions Test (DAT) Preparation or Emerging Infectious Diseases (2 Credits):

I just recently finished my MPH 3.94 gpa and undergrad cgpa 2.95, 2.75 sgpa (not proud of🙁 )

Any thoughts?! Which would you choose? Sorry for the long post!

I think you should be looking at more undergrad, like the URM program at Wake Forest or Gtown GEMS. VCU would be a better choice than Mercer or G^2 ACS.

Your undergrad GPAs should make you truly fearful of the courseload in the grad programs you're considering. You have no time in these programs to work on study skills. If you don't get A's in your classes in these programs, you're doing further damage to your desire to go to med school. And it would be a mistake to plan on A's, all of a sudden, given your undergrad record.

Don't be in a hurry to get into med school. Be in a hurry to figure out how to get A's, and get a bunch of them before you start med school. Take advantage of the support you'll get in an URM program that you won't get in a regular SMP-like program.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you for your response! I was under the impressiom that for those programs you would have had to have applied to medical school already and only after this are you considered? How are these programs any different from the above? Instead of doing one of the above post bacs, should I just retake classes? I only received 5 C's during undergrad and they were in 5 credit courses-these courses are also offered within the post bacs-still not a good idea to attend? Thanks for all of your help!
