Option 1) Medicine, because it is what I love. I have lots of clinical experience that leads me to believe it is the only profession I can see myself in that will bring me the most personal satisfaction.

If there was a field outside medicine that I loved more which brought in even $20,000 a year, I would be in that field right now.

Don't let a salary dictate your future.

It'll depend on the job.

working the dirtiest jobs in the nation, a different dirty job everyday and your experience will be filmed and documented.

The only pre-req is that you have to have guerrilla chest hair and a charming sense of humor.

Many years from now, please come back and revisit this comment of yours. I'd like know if your impression of medicine ever sways from your current mindset.

Sure : ) I grew up below the federal poverty level and will be joining the military to finance my education. I also worked side by side with physicians in the ER/trauma room and got to hear the bad side of medicine for over a year.

If I still like medicine in 10 years, buy be a beer?

This. The negatives(possible sacrifices in our personal health/social life etc) are far outweighed by the hope that we will one day be doing something we truly love.

Also why are you asking this? Are you struggling yourself to figure out if you should've picked another major? I don't mean to be rude, but this is the wrong place to be asking questions like this.

And yes, it won't all be peaches and cream but every occupation has its undesirable aspects.

fixed.

I still can't find an undesirable aspect to what Anthony Bourdain does for a living.

You should ask this on the non-trad board where some are leaving $100k+ jobs to pursue med.

It's also (obviously) hard to take this seriously since far less than 1% of all college grads have access to this kind of choice...and for those that do, it is highly unlikely that they were able to squeeze all the pre-med preparation into their UG experience.

Lastly, any realistic opportunity that will pay a new graduate even close to this amount will require hours/devotion which will likely equal or exceed that required for med school. Example: being a petro engineer on an oceanic rig = being at work 24/7!

I'm currently an MD/PhD student putting medical school on hold to pursue the job of my dreams in mathematics. I may or may not go back to medical school, depending on how this dream job+PhD opportunity pans out. I am infinitely happier in this field, though my hours are similar (my preference) to those I had in medical school. If you love the job, take it. Medical school will still be there in twenty years if you decide you really do miss it. The job may not.

(1) Pursue medical school knowing you'll graduate with 200-300k in debt, won't be able to practice until your 30's, and the ramifications to your personal well-being generally.
(2) Stable, well-paying (100k+) job straight out of undergrad with good hours and a great work environment (not in medicine).

Go PA if you want to less schooling and 100k+ job.

Ah...but not all for the same reasons. There are some people around these parts that think being a physician is like what they see on House or Gray's Anatomy. Also, a bunch of kids are trying to get into medical school to make their parents happy or because they are stupid enough to think that they'll get rich by becoming a doctor.
