Alright, I read through the XXX vs YYY school threads and tried to weigh in the pros and cons. My two factors deal with the best bang for your buck type deal, but which of these schools would you think is best for me to go if I want to keep the option of specializing open? I have interviews at the follow and have only gone to one interview and gotten in. I also got an interview at my state MD school, but it will not factor into the equation because obv allopathic has more options to specialize.

LECOM-Erie
CCOM
KCUMB
KCOM
LMUDCOM

I know CCOM is great, but 50k tuition? seriously...i dunno. I like KCOM and think it's the best bang for your buck. What do you guys think? I need to start thinking now because the one acceptance I got is asking for a deposit and I need to start thinking which school I like. I interview KCUMB, KCOM, and CCOM, and LMUDCOM in that order all within the next 5 weeks.

I think you should wait to decide after you have seen the schools. We can tell you whatever you want to hear but you don't have acceptances to these schools. If you don't pay your lecom depost, murphy's law says you will get rejected everywhere else and if you pay it, you will get accepted everywhere else. Also, we may all say KCOM for sure but then you ge to Kirksville and say "eff that." We could all say CCOM is the worst and you may think it is the best. Congrats on your acceptance but you definitely putting the cart before the horse. You can't assume you are gonna get accepted at all because you got accepted at one. Good luck on your upcoming interviews and hopefully we have this same conversation in 2 months when you are really trying to decide.

Well said. Congrats on your acceptance OP! But like Stok mentioned, everyone is different. There are so many things that go into the characteristics of a "good" school, and that can change from person to person... like if you'd rather be in a small city vs. a big city.

I'm sorta in a similar position.... although I don't have an acceptance yet, I'm debating between KCUMB, DMU, and KCOM as my top choice OOS school. I haven't interviewed at any of them yet (all coming up within the next couple weeks!! :xf:) so ya. Hopefully we'll both be ending the year with many acceptances. 🙂

Thanks guys. Frky yeah I know. I forgot to put the disclaimer that I obviously don't know if anyone else is going to accept me. I just wanted to start getting an idea because I don't want to put a deposit down and get accepted at my interview next week at KCUMB and want to put a deposit down for that guy instead. You know what I mean? Basically I tried to schedule the interviews close so I could have time to choose which to put a deposit down for. I dont have like 4k to risk on putting deposits down for all these schools (if I was fortunate to get in).

I just want to get into my state school...🙁 That would be the ultimate bang for your buck situation...but I'm up to stiff competition for MD because I got torched gpa-wise and mcat.

i understand your concern but as an example of my own personal experience, DMU was my first choice with KCOM being second choice and KCUMB being third. After seeing Kirksville, it would be tough for my wife and kids to live in so it dropped below KCUMB (I saw the town of Kirksville, but not the school). After seeing KCUMB i realized that I may need to move and Arizona schools jumped up on my list because of the weather. Then I get an invite to CCOM and realized that I could stay in the central states realistically and AZ schools fell.

I only say all of this to illustrate that things change. KCUMB was great and had awesome match lists, but it is definitely the "college/dorm" feel which I am not sure I want, so I am definitely waiting to see KCOM. But if I get rejected from DMU, and moving is realistic, CCOM may become my top choice when it wasn't before.

And I think it sucks that people have to rush into decisions at schools. From a business standpoint it makes sense because you are yanking money early from applicants that are excited about an acceptance, but it is stupid to decline acceptance without another acceptance. Good luck and hopefully it works out well for you.

As a quick qualifier, I hear KCUMB accepts 90% of their interviewers. I have absolutely no statistical evidence to back this up, just hearsay.
