Which year is it the most advantageous to live close to campus?

I will be starting Med school this Fall, and is in the process of apartment hunting. During the next four years, which year(s) would it be the most advantageous to live closer to campus? Housing is much more expensive near the school, but much less so a bit farther out. If you had gone through a few years of medical school already, what is your opinion?

My view is that it is ALWAYS a plus to live near campus.

Save money and live farther out. Depends on the school, though, and your access to transportation. Students here get "free" public transportation so it's really easy to live off campus and commute in under 10-15 minutes. Also depends on amount of mandatory stuff. If you have to go to school every single day in 1st and 2nd year, maybe you would like living closer to the school.

Depends on the school honestly. M1 and M2 generally will be nice to live closer since you'll be going there for classes. m3 and m4 it depends on how your school rotates, some rotate strongly inhouse which also happens to be right on their campus, others rotate out a lot more - which depending on the setup of the town and clinical sites, might be nicer to live away from campus and closer to those other rotation locations and/or where it is cheaper.
