Whip out your dds and avoid speeding tickets

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What is a DDS badge? Where does one get one? Can you give people tickets for bad teeth/bad breath? If that is the case I can't wait till I get both my DDS degree and corresponding badge for use in everyday encounters with the apparently floss-phobic public.

Does anyone know if most dentists can get away with speeding ticket? Apparently, my friend whose dad is a dentist got away with a bunch of speeding tickets b/c he showed his DDS badge 👍

WTF..... DDS badge. What the hell is he talking about?

Now, military ID .... that gets you off more times than not! 👍

probably ID with ur title, DDS on it? no idea. but anyways, do you think if cops know ur a dentist, you have a better chance getting out of speeding tickets? that would be a plus to the profession 😀

Maybe op means a DDS licence plate?

If by "ID" you mean "tattoo in a sensitive area"... sometimes you get out of the ticket, sometimes you go to jail for indecent exposure... kind of a crapshoot.
huh.gif

I think you're guaranteeing yourself getting a ticket if you're a DDS. Towns need money more than ever and who is in better financial shape to pay that ticket than a DDS? That expensive treatment plan from your typical LVI dentist handed to that cop certainly do not elicit any sympathy.

Look I can do it too.

Do you think that if you have a job that is totally unrelated to law enforcement, keeps you out of harms way, is infamous for inflicting pain, and pays very well that cops will give you a break on tickets?

Along those lines, you might be better served to keep a set of bubba teeth in the glove box...

generally no, but if he a the dentist for the police(ie in a special contract) a consultant for the police or medical examiner, etc,,, we need more info then what you gave us.

In Phila, about 40 years ago, we had a special unit at Phila General Hosp for police and fire for in-patient care, and a special emergency clinic for them - and a special ID - not a badge,

The only "special treatment" that I've personally gotten, is one of my patients is a detective for the State Police and when my wife was caught going a bit too fast on the highway one day (seriously it wasn't me🙂 ) the next day, the detective happened to be in getting his teeth cleaned and during my exam, I jokingly mentioned my lead foot wife and her ticket. He asked me to get him the name of the issuing officer and told me that if I made a $50 contribution to the Police Athletic League that the ticket would go away😀 Much better than the $300+ fine and points that the ticket would have cost!

Now, I keep the license + registration in a little packet that I got after making a contribution to the State Troopers and my wife and I have "I support the state troopers" bumper stickers on, and I was told by my patient to specifically mention his name if I get stopped as I'm handing the officer my license + registration in the folder (has the state police seal on it) to the officer. Haven't tried it out yet, and lets just say that I'm keeping the cruise control set at 75 on the highway still so I hopefully WON'T have to find out if it works or not!

I'm curious, is this like the elusive "friends and family" pass I've heard so much about? In all seriousness, if you told the cop you were speeding because you're on your way to an emergency dental procedure 😀 that might work. Hey, I'm just saying....

"I'm sorry, officer, but I have some emergency veneers I have to place!"

...I dunno if they're going to go for that, TG. 😉

You guys are getting all worked up over a DDS badge that gets you out of tickets...with a DMD badge you can actually pull people over (including cops) and GIVE them tickets.

I got out of tickets twice after the cops found out that I am a dentist. But I did not intentionally let the cops knew that I am a dentist. The first time I was in a scrub so the office asked me if I am a doctor. So I told him that I am a dental resident working in the hospital down the block and he let me go. The second time the officer asked where am I headed to. I told him that I was on my way for a job interview and he asked me about my profession. I told me that I am a dentist. After that, he said "Doc, I will give you a warning this time. Slow down a bit okay."
So that was my personally experience. I do think cops don't like to give doctors/dentist tickets in general.

sweettt.. thanks for sharing first hand encounters! 👍

The best way to get out of a ticket is show that you respect the officer. Pull over to a safe area, roll down your windows, turn off your car, put the car keys in your dashboard, and put both hands on the steering wheel.

Showing a cop anything more than what a cop asks (license, registration, and insurance) is disrespectful. Think about how we would like it if somebody did that to us? If you have a law enforcement union card, flash it while giving what the cop asks but do not give it.

Aznfarmerboi.....that is a perfect description of what you should do!

My husband is a county police officer. What Aznfarmerboi described is what my husband told me to do if I ever get pulled over (which has only happened once in my life, by the way). Turning off the car, putting both hands on the wheel will make the office feel 10 times more comfortable. Remember, they don't know who they are pulling over or if they have a gun, etc.

As for the getting out of a ticket. My husband told me he doesn't care who the hell you are. He gives tickets to *** holes and warnings to those few individuals that are respectful and courteous. If you start arguing with the officer - automatic ticket. My husband always says "I don't pull people over for my health." haha. He's soo silly....

As for if you are a doctor, dentist, etc. I wouldn't volunteer this information unless asked. It's just annoying and disrespectful.

On the other hand, if your husband is the police officer and is driving and happens to get pulled over.....it is VERY easy to get out of a ticket.....especially if you are being pulled over by your Sergeant! lol

Actually, because DMD's are real doctors we get a special badge that looks like a police officer badge. I've used it on several occasions.

If you've been unfortunate enough to get a DDS, you don't get a badge because you're not classified as a doctor.

GGG, I wonder what DDS stands for. Department of Driver Services?...Ohh, wait, It's Doctor👍😀😉 of Dental Surgery.

Hey i don't make the rules.

Because DMD is in latin (Dentariae Medicinae Doctor) and we can give injecitons (unlike a DDS), we get a special badge when we graduate.

It kind of looks like this:
mbb%2068%20-%20gb.%20royal%20army%20dental%20corp%20hat%20badge%20$10.jpg

it comes with a special wallet like a police badge and gives us clearence in most police jurisdicitons
