I will be starting school this summer and they have a white coat ceremony. Do you know what it is like? My family would have to travel a long distance to come, and I am wondering if it’s worth it. I am going to ASDOH, but would like to hear from others in other schools too.
Basically I want to know if it’s something cheesy, or if it really is something that is important and significant that family should attend.
Thanks

The white coat was an OK event (not at ASDOH). I would not have my family travel long distances, and they didn't for the event. It's basically a formal welcoming to the profession and reciting professional ethics that the class came up with.

i thought it wasn't going to be a big deal, but it was pretty cool, and i bet your family would enjoy coming out to see you get a white coat. if they cant make it, its not a big deal, but if they can i would bet you wont regret it

Mine was lame. If you were the type that brought home your A+ spelling test senior year of high school then your parents should come.

White coat shouldn't be some flashy ceremony. It should just be the official start of your commitment to your patients. Unfortunetly, it fealt more like "look at me! I'm playing doctor now!".

I would save the $$$ and hang out with your family on your own schedule instead of listening to boring speeches.

And it's going to be 8, maybe 9 thousand degrees if you have white coat in the summer of AZ.

Good job in getting here though.

Basically you show up at 8 am in the morning, you get a welcome from the dean and the faculty, then you get like 2 hours to eat lunch w/ your family before you drive to downtown Mesa to for the ceremony. You do the oath then you walk up on stage and shake the dean's hand, then you get a flower and take some group pictures. It was pretty cool but it's just your first day so if you family has to travel really far it might not be worth it, unless they're rich and can afford the air fair. I'm from Mesa so it wasn't an issue for me. Hope this helps.
