Hey I wrote about this in my test date thread but figured more people would want to notice something like this.

I did not realize that my test center (I am taking it on 5th of August) is one of the centers that makes you use WHITEBOARDS and MARKERS :bang:

They said they don't allow papper and pencil at this test center.

Does any one have tips on useing the white boards or a way to get out of it and just use the paper and pencil?

Because Kaplan has been teaching me many methods based on the use of scrap papper. So I don't have to erase my work from previous problems, problems I triaged, formula's jotted down in the begining, ect...

If not how can I find another center on this day that uses papper and pencil/pen?!

Thank you, Just pretty upset about this and it's scaring me because it kind of defeats a lot of the methods I have been practicing.

You could call other centers to find out, but i'm pretty sure most would offer white board and maker.

did they tell you that you must use the board?
The bolded statement is true of any test center, because they give you pencils and a scrap paper when you get there, you can't use your own

I would suggest buying a small whiteboard from walmart and practicing with that from now on. Just adapt to the technique and move on. Or find a new testing center if it is something you can no deal with.

Yeah I keep trying to call the other center on Long Island, but keep missing them because of work.

I asked if there was any way you could use paper and pencil they said no.

And I'll try to practice, but I don't know how much I can adapt with in a week. 🙁

Dman27, i'm taking my mcat at the melville center on li. was that by any chance the one you took yours at? the only reason I ask is because i can not stand to use a white board as i've only practiced with paper and pen too!

I called my test center (Omaha NE) & asked about this issue last semester. The lady said that what their site gives its testers are 2 pieces of laminated paper normal size (front & back available so it's like you have 4 pieces of scratch paper), an eraser & a thin tip marker. Paper & pencil is no longer an option since I guess they're "going green". Once I heard that I bought some markers, an eraser, took 2 pieces of printing paper, laminated them & I've been practicing with them ever since...

Yeah I just called my testing center (in VA) and they said they give us a white board and markers :/ gah that blows

Yikes - thanks for the heads up. This may also affect test taking strategies like jotting down formulas during the tutorial...

Yikes Dman! I can't stand this laminated paper thingy. I mean WHO really studies like this? Ugh - no one! 🙁

Here's my suggestion - practice practice practice at home exactly how the test center sets up their "scratch paper" thingy. Get as many details about it as possible, including the type of pen they use or the size of the pen tip. I can't imagine that's "secret information."

With your laminated sheet, draw thin grid lines to divide up the blank space in half or in fourths to allot yourself ample, but organized, space for passage mapping and calculations. Normally, I have my MCAT kids fold their scratch paper in fourths when passage mapping and it works well. Instead, you might just have to actually draw the lines.

Let us know what you decide to do!!!!

I just called my testing center at SDSU and they said they provide regular scratch paper, NO white boards. I hope this isn't because they havent received the memo from AAMC yet. Might just practice with laminated paper just incase
