Ok, so I e-submitted, payed and sent out all my LOR's on May 16 around noon. I thought I did this pretty quickly and efficiently, and I was wondering if anyone had done it any sooner. Any Competition out there?

What about your DATs?

I take my DAT first week of July, I'm actually doing all of this REALLY early because I have a crappy GPA (2.9) but i'm graduating in 3 years instead of 4 and I have an awesome dental background which began my sophomore year in high school. I'm going to study like crazy for the DAT, though. I will be attending the Kaplan course in june for 5 weeks.
Applied to: NYU, BU, Tufts, Howard.

congrats on applying early.. but here is your reality check:

1) a mediocre application doesn't become suddenly competitive just because you applied early

2) finishing college in 3 years with a 2.9 is not impressive. everybody with a GPA of 3.0+ in 4 years is in line ahead of you. why not stay an extra year and raise your GPA? and your BAC

i kinda agree...i dont think it matters if you apply the 15th or a week later because aadsas is going to process them till june. its good to apply early, but seriously, you dont have to be pressured to do the application this month! u are going to be competing with a really competitive batch so your gpa and dat scores should be the focus at this time. but if u have the gpa and good dat scores, still its OK not to have everything done by the end of MAY! schools dont look at the applicants who apply the earliest, your credentials matter the most.

for the record, my application wasn't complete until the end of september and i got into all of my top choices. applying early is not a big deal (although to read SDN, you'd think it was the only way to get into dental school  ) you either have the stats or you don't...

I agree. I applied pretty late too:

DAT:
mid-aug - late-aug

AADSAS application:
late September

Secondary application:
mid-October - late-October

Interview:
Nov 5th

Acceptance:
Morning of Dec 1st

Applying early could mean that your application gets passed on if you don't the marks and it might not be for a long while before it gets looked at again.

Good luck anyways!

The first mailing of applications to dental schools doesn't go down till June 1st. As long as u have ur app. in by then ur good-the main thing to hurry on is making sure they get ur transcripts ASAP, since they don't require LORs in order to mail ur app...point being, dont rush it, may 16 is off the hizzle..its still not gonna get mailed till june 1st, or in ADEA time, about june 7th or so 🙂. I've got all my stuff done except one LOR and my essay, the essay is really whats keeping me from submitting, that and my designations, i haven't received my official guide to dental schools from that fine ass UPS man yet...hopefully i'll get that tomorrow. Anyways, ....yeah..........ok 😎

I'm actually receiving my BS in 3 years (i have 100 credits to my name)...I'm taking 3 summer classes which are easy A's so my GPA is going to be like a 3.05 by the end of summer, also i have 360 hrs of shadowing, invented my own orthodontic istrument, placed 1st in the Nation in a dental assisting competition....and you say i'm MEDIOCRE!?!?!?!? oh please.

what is a dental assisting competition? and why wasnt i invited? in my opinion you could have not done all that had a 3.6 gpa and still be viewed the same so yes mediocre if you had a higher gpa with all that with a high DAT then you would be stellar...with the level of competition now they value high GPA but best of luck nonetheless

I think you have an impressive profile. But the ugly truth is that most schools use GPA and DAT to screen out applicants. I wish you the best of luck on DAT.

P.S. I am very curious about your invention. Would you mind to share how it works?

Submitted my application on May 16 around 3, however I had my trascripts next day delivered. They arrived at AADSAS 9:00 am the next morning. So maybe I jump ahead of you in line...jk. Good job on getting your app in so early.

So AADSAS will send out your application without your LOR's?

That's the only thing that I'm waiting for...is one letter of recommendation.

You guys think I can just submit my application now?

i live down the street from AADSAS, i just filled out the form and dropped it off in person like 15min after they let us get it.

I just submitted my application online through TMDSAS this morning.

I'm mailing my application fee, photos, and signed certification page this morning as soon as the post office opens.

My letters will not go out until Monday or Tuesday.

I'm not taking the DAT until June 30th or maybe even the first week of July. I am so not ready for it right now. 🙁

Yes, you can submit your application without your LOR's. Your application will take 4-8 weeks to process. So you have a few weeks to get your LOR's to AADSAS. If by chance your appplication gets sent to the schools before your LOR's arrive they will just forward them to the designated schools. You should e-submit today.

What form are you talking about? It's an online application. Are you talking about your transcripts?

My cousins, brothers, friend, has an aunt who applied on May 10th I hear.....looks like you're a little late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Way to go with getting your application done so early, except the schools are not going to even look at you untill your DAT scores are in. Your application isn't complete untill your DAT's are in.

I won a drawing for the chance to apply May 14th. An AADSAS representative was flown into Chicago to pick up my application that day.

Seriously people...get a life! Whether you apply May 15th or July 15th really makes no difference if your GPA is sub-par.

I agree my stuff wasn't in until Sep. and I took my DAT in October. In the end it comes down to numbers plain and simple. Early applicants I guess don't have to compete with as many high numbers so I guess thats where the advantage is. REality is though you got your stuff in early and that is definitely not a bad thing. It shows you're determined and right on the ball. Good luck to you and keep everyone informed on how you do!

Also, don't underestimate the DAT. It's easy to say "yeah I'll just kill the DAT" but the reality is it's a f*ucking bitch. I nailed all of my chem, o-chem, bio classes and I still had to retake it. The truth is a sub par gpa is reflective of what you took out of those classes. If you're going to kill the DAT you got A LOT of work to do, I'm talking 8-10 hr days in the library. Nonetheless, good luck to you.

What's the deal with all this negativity? If I could share one thing I have learned from SDN is that you should apply early. So obvioulsy the OP learned this very fact and decides to make a thread discussing getting his app in early and all he gets is **** and smart a@# remarks for getting his stuff in quickly. Everyone who is comfortable with waiting to submit their application, keep that attitude. Hold off as long as you can. To those who have there stuff ready to submit, go ahead and submit. Congrats on an early application. If AADSAS f's up (which I know is very uncommon) you will still end up getting your stuff in on time.

predents are competitive in EVERYTHING!! damn it what's wrong with us?

ps. yet to submit my appl

why is every being so hateful on this kid, noone is giving him any advice, peopl are just being jealous that they couldnt turn it in as early as he did. More propls to you man, I wish I could turn it in this early

why the thumbs down? i think the applying early thing has gotten blown a bit out of proportion. i really don't think there's a difference between sending that aadsas in on may 15th, may 31st, june 15th, or even july 1st.

you're so cool

just so you know i don't know a school that cares how fast you earn your degree, only that it doesn't take you forever. I applied last cycle and just finished my third year. i'm taking classes during the summer and will graduate 1 semester after three years and during that semester i will only take 8 credits to graduate. I even took a semester off to coach a high school baseball team and work full time. not once did I hear that anyone cared, but on the other hand i was told by most schools that the reason i wasn't accepted is because they wanted me to earn a degree.

Just e-submitted it...May 20!

i'm cocky as hell, i know it, what are you gonna do about it? you suck by the way.

well, snoopy... he/she was right when he said your stats were very average (that is very kind, actually... they will be average if and only if you score very well on the DAT).

just curious... why are you so sure you will destroy the DAT when it seems so far your college classes have destroyed your transcript?

snoopy

i hope to God you don't end up in my dental class, but i guess i don't have to worry about that since i'll be at a top tier school 😉

I disagree, in general terms. It may not make the OP's application competitive, but it does make SOME applicants more competitive. Applying early usually means there are less applications you are going up against, so it's easier to get interviews at some schools. And, for those who do admissions on a rolling basis, that's a good thing.
