Say this on the Optho forum and thought it was a interesting thread:

On your ranklist, who did you rank LAST? And if you want to share, why?

My bottom four were:

12: San Antonio
13: UVA
14: Case Western (Metro Health)
15: Colorado

Lol, I may as well post my entire rank list, since I only ranked 6 programs.

1) UMich
2) Ohio State
3) William Beaumont
4) Wayne State/RIM
5) CWRU/MetroHealth
6) Rush

Unranked but interviewed at;
Cincinatti
Schwab

Cinci was too far away and too small for my tastes, I didn't really feel like Schwab was a good fit for me either.

Why Colorado last?
and UVA?
Please elaborate

I haven't looked at this board since starting my intern year at UVA, which I must say is only 1 month from being OVER  But, yah, I would be interested in knowing why you ranked us that far down, not to defend anything but maybe change the impression of future interviewee's.

A lot of people I met on the interview trail had a very good opinion of UVa. Consensus seemed to be a very up and coming program. Many people spoke highly of the new attending/director? that came from Spaulding.

😀

That's good to hear as that is part of why I chose UVA - Dr. Kerrigan is great. I know there are so many factors that weigh into the decision process. At least for me it was always difficult when someone's opinion didn't match with what you saw while interviewing.

So you ranked CWRU/Metrohealth pretty high. While the last post ranked it pretty low. I guess that's the beauty of the match when two people can completely disagree on a program. But I'm interviewing there soon and I'm wondering how biased they are about people from Ohio or the midwest. Is it because you like the location more and are willing to overlook some of it's shortcomings?

Well, I confined myself to programs in Michigan, Chicago and Ohio because myself and my girlfriend were born and raised in Michigan and were both planning to stay in the area...

CWRU had a couple of shortcomings in my opinion, primarily the lack of an in-house interventional fellowship as well as in-house overnight call. However, they did have a pretty good research program. Check out my full review in the 'Stories from the interview trail' sticky.

Apparently, Metrohealth is having financial issues as well. I read in the Cleveland-Plains Dealer the other day that they were asking Cuyahoga County for an extra 8 figure disbursement for uncompensated indigent care...that was one of my concerns with my home program last year, RIM.

I don't remember the makeup of their residents....but from what I recall most of the people I met were from Ohio/Midwest.
