I started med school orientation today. I guess I'm officially a med student now. Ok, not really; still waiting for the white coat ceremony. Who else has started?

some folks started schl already, I've 10days till orientation and I'm makin the most out of it 😀

@lotanna: I'm soooo excited for you!! congrats again on the major accomplishment. 👍

at UNE (DO in maine) we've been here for two weeks now... our first anatomy test is next wednesday... 😱

wow jonb, that is pretty fast. I guess everyone else will be in action pretty soon. good luck on your test! :luck:

just finished first day of orientation....3 more to go 👎 at least classes start soon!

velocypedalist hang in there!! it will be over soon. 😀

I was supposed to start on the 23rd at Albany, but NYMC accepted me on their second day of orientation. I'll be taking my first gross exam two days before I was supposed to begin orientation. 😱

NYU move-in is in 8 days and then we have Orientation till the 30th when classess officially begin.

I'm almost a med student, I'm almost a med student.....

*sigh* I want to be where you are next year...

Orientation in 13 days... man, I've had 9 months off from anything and I wish I still had another.

Should be exciting starting everything though. and don't worry Dr. Thom, your time will come. Seriously, last year I was in your position wanting to be where I am now. Now that it's about to start, I wish I went back to interviewing and just chilling senior year.

I had my orientation and white coat ceremony last week. I'm in my 2nd day and am really lost in anatomy. My advice to all before you start medical school, MD or DO, and especially if you haven't taken an anatomy class yet, STUDY NOW for anatomy before it's too late. 😱

I'm not going to the orientation, as bad as it may sound. Getting mayo and ketchup in my hair isn't my kind of fun.

UCLA's orientation was last week. We started classes officially yesterday

I understand the thought, but I personally would say, save yourself, I'm already studying SO much and am glad I didn't spend my summer. Relax now and be ready to start when school starts! Good luck.

Yeppers, I will start my orientation next week, and classes will start for me on the 23rd. 😱 I'm very anxious and excited.

I too am glad that I relaxed for at least a month this Summer. I even lost the eye twitch that I gained from my undergraduate curriculum. It'll probably come back in med-school though. 👎 🙄

well guys in a hot minute you will be snd years!! 😀 😀 so hang in there, you will be fine!!
@Amy B: hello and good luck on the 18th!! that's when you start right??

As one whose school does not have the White Coat Ceremony until the spring, I tell you that you officially ARE a med student even now. 😉

For those who haven't started: Don't study! You have plenty of time for that once you actually have something to study.

Congratulations & good luck!

I'm attending WashU. And to the other comment, I think this thread is a bridge between pre-allo and allo, since I was asking who has started and who hasn't. Oh well, I'm out.

Hi, orientation starts on the 18th, classes on the 23rd. We don't have our whit coat ceremony until after the 1st block. It will be in December. Guess they want to make sure we can get through the first 10 week block.

GOOD LUCK ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would just like orientation to start already - First day is 17th and Classes start on the 23rd. We just got the schedule for orientation and it seems like a lot of lecturing - do you get much time to socialize with your fellow classmates? it just seems the only time u get to meet them and talk is lunch and the few fun events they have (i think only 2-3 on our schedule) in the evening.

What are you talking about? This is med school not a high school fraternity. I don't think skipping orientation is an option.

OMG! What's that all about? My eye's been twitching lately with all this MCAT studying! Weird... I thought it was just me...

? Was your post serious ? Yea, I'm skipping orientation. Maybe it works differently here. It's on sunday, we have to be at the faculty at 9 am, dressed as bacterias, and we are brought to a gym where we '' bathe '' in food.

Anyway, it's called '' initiation '' here.

I feel the same way Strngout! I am super excited about being in chicago and orientation and everything else . . . but I'm not going to lie, I've enjoyed going out at night, laying out in the sun and reading, and just being plain lazy this summer 😉. See ya soon (I leave for Chicago next Thursday 😱 )!!!

Same thing I was thinking. You guys have earned the right to post such conversations in the Allo thread. Go Go shoo shoo!

Don't you know: "Parting is such sweet sorrow."

We reserve the right to stay in pre-allow until we:
a) don the coat,
b) see a dead person, and
c) pull an all-nighter to remember "Oh Oh Oh To Touch And Feel Virgin Girls Vaginas And Hymens (Anatomy)"

Yeah skip most of it ... most of it is useless ... but do the important things, like registering for classes, making sure your financial aid is in order, immunizations, etc. Besides, don't you want to move in before classes start? The whole purpose is for you to just be settled in .. i.e. not hauling in a couch between anatomy and histo or waiting 5 hours to have your gas turned on. Many schools will give your sit to someone else if you don't show up on the first day. Don't have that happen either 🙂

To the post about socializing, there really is plenty of time, just not right before exams. So far, I find the level of difficulty really overrated. You have to work in med school (duh), but its totally doable.

I know that, but thanks anyway 😳 Yea, I'm only skipping the boring part of it, but I'm moving in before orientation and school starts like 1 day later.
