Who has the most interviews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
MacGyver is walking proof that a 4.0 GPA and a 40 MCAT does not make a great doctor...

That's a terrible situation and I know - I have a stack of 57 rejection letters and postcards attesting to that fact. I wish everyone that applied to med school could attend. The fact that this is our dream should be sufficient enough. But in reality, we may have to taste failure before we achieve our goal.

Andrew...I admire your tenacity. Ever see that cartoon where a stork is swallowing a frog and all you can see it the frog's legs and one arm, gripped around the stork's neck preventing him from being swallowed. The caption is "never give up."

Could you give me an analysis of your situation? At this point, I'm sure you know what has kept you out. What areas did you need to improve on?

Thank you

Back when I was applying (ie freaking out) I used to post on here a lot, but I haven't had time since I started school (for obvious reasons). I just wanted to say that you'll all be pleasantly surprised that most of these kind of annoying people from your premed classes get weeded out and never make it to med school. I'm not sure if it's like this at every school so choose where you go to school wisely.

Thanks Loki - The first time (in 95) AMCAS neglected to tell me there was a mistake on my app for two months before contacting me. Since I had submitted in August of that year (there was no SDN to help guide me through the process back then), by the time the error was corrected, it was past the deadline of most of the schools. Add in a less-than-stellar GPA and MCAT, plus being from California, I only got a few secondaries and zero interviews.

So, in 96, I had a Masters in Chem, a much better MCAT and a GPA that was boosted a bit. A couple more secondaries, zero interviews. Prior to going into grad school, I tried one more time, half-heartedly since I was pretty much dejected.

So, I went to grad school since I thought med school would never happen. Well after four years, I've decided to reapply. Now I have experience in a cancer hospital, four years of my own research and leadership experience, a couple papers, an even better MCAT score and a PhD - which even brought up the GPA a little. I'm still not getting my hopes up, but I feel better since I'm getting more secondaries from much better schools this time around, but then again, that may just be due to AMCAS's troubles this year.

Anyhoos, I just hope none of you has to go through the same thing.

Andrew

WOW ANDREW TALK ABOUT TENACITY!!!

Geez, I don't think I have the potential to work that hard as you! I know your going to be a great doc andrew...I wish you the best of luck, and I MEAN IT ;)

Andrew....

I have a good feeling that you will be successful this time...

-=o)

Andrew, I can't imagine that you won't get in somewhere this year!

Okay, NOW it's clear that Mr. 'Do it to others before they do it to you slash I'm gonna get mine and that's all that matters' is indeed a complete and total nimrod. Try to give people the benefit of the doubt....(shakes head in disapproval)
I can be abrasive at times and have been known to be honest to a fault (i.e., lacking in tact) but it's obvious even to me, not that mac says it like it is, but that he has a repugnant character and apparently can't grasp the notion that others don't share in his twisted perception. Looter comes to mind. Gross.
Of course, no offense. :)

Andrew, I truly do wish you the best of luck. It is applicants like you who will make fabulous doctors. And all of your hard work will definitely pay off. I work closely with physicians in my research and clinical job at a well-known hospital. I can tell you from the daily conversations that I have with the physicians that hard work and drive will come back to you in the end. So, go get them...
I also truly believe that good works and wishes also always are returned. Unfortunately a negative attitude and wishes of harm also find their way back. The repayment might not be in the ways that you expect, but it will come. I know that all of you who have posted and been so helpful to me and so many others will all have that help visited back upon you in some way.

aaaaawww

desperatelyseeking4Md that was such a cute message... :D

good luck girl! ;)

Whata...Thanks, but it was not meant to be cute. It is what I truly believe. I have seen it time and time again. Maybe it is because I have been out of school for awhile and have a little more perspective.
Thanks for getting the gender right...was it that obvious from my post?

sure I could tell, with the warmth of the message that you were female...

also no disrespect to the ladies, but I dont know why the alias reveals the gender...

observe

Desperatelyseeking4MD

are both females....I want to hypothesize that females in general want the MD degree more "desperately" and even resort to "praying" for it ;) hehehehehehe it was just a joke, so please don't take it offensively..

obviously I can't generalize all females with these two aliases, but that is how I based my assumption that you were female :D

also, notice how much everyone has digressed from the original subject of scolding a certain SDN user ;)

Not offended at all! But I must take this opportunity to clarify my username's meaning. The common misconception about my name is that I am praying to get into med school. While this is true in some respects, it is NOT what I originally meant by my username. The day I chose my username for SDN I had a bad experience with a couple of physicians and really felt disillusioned with the medical profession (they were very brash and unwilling to answer questions.) When I signed up, I actually meant that I was praying for the STATE OF DOCTORS & THE MEDICAL PROFESSION. I was hoping it would get better and that the new generation of physicians would be an improvements upon the old days of callous medicine. Judging from this thread, I still have a lot of praying to do. ;)

Andrew: What a cool story you will have to tell all your patients when they are searching for a source of motivation and encouragement to persist through obstacles. I can't imagine what kind of fools on an adcom would have let you slip through the cracks of the system in the past; I have a feeling they will not be so foolish this time around though. I would wish you luck, but it is so obvious that you don't need it! Oh hell-- I'll do it anyway: Good luck! :)

oh glad you told me :D now I know what your name REALLY means....and of course, I have to do some praying to the God of Watchas so he will let me get into medical school ;)

Of course. Put in a good word for me too. I am not even a follower of the God of Watchs yet (still converting), but hey, I'm willing to try anything at this point. :)

OMG haha! I can't belive this!

I also find it humorous that when Macgyver had 5 interviews I hadn't even sent in my AMCAS yet.

Why don't we just start another thread,

"Who's daddy makes the most money?" :p

•••••Hmm...I seem to be drawing a blank here Jalbrekt. Anyone know the proper literary term for what I'm sensing after reading this post? Ah, yes, IRONY!

In the words of Alanis:

"And isn't it ironic... don't you think
A little too ironic.. and yeah I really do think..."

BTW, why did you resurrect this, jalbrekt? I mean, we know the guy's a troll. We don't need evidence. All I was saying is that there wasn't anything particularily troll-ish in his newest thread.

My opinion is, once an a$$hole, always an a$$hole. I just think this Macgyver is a terrible person and I will tell him that every time I get a chance.

As to papi's irony thing, I know, I was wrong. But hey, people can change.

What I don't understand is why this guy doesn't just change his name... no one likes him around here, and if he would just call himself something else, no one would know the darn difference and he'd actually get some answers to his questions.

For a person who claims to have had five interviews by the end of August, and who's interviewed at FOUR IVIES with ONE ACCEPTANCE (Dartmouth) he sure is pretty dumb.

ok so if you see a post by member #8480 in the future, it's MacGyver

MacGyver, you're a stooge. I hope I don't have a classmate like you.

Sorry to invade and post in pre-allo, but had to chime in...

MacGyver is one of those guys that always asks you "How'd you do on such and such test?" I ALWAYS tell those people I got a C. Can't you just see him coming up to you as an MS-1 and saying "Didn't you just love that physiochem lecture today? what a hoot!"

In honor of Trek...

Wow that Mac guy had some SERIOUS issues.

Can anyone beat my 5 interviews! I realize that some of you out there don't have any yet but I really feel the need to rub it in your face! I have a small penis and I have an inferiority complex which I offset by making other people feel like ****. I'm going to be a great doctor one day! I'm very compassionate and I care about people.

I'm sure your small penis won't interfere with how good a doctor your going to be. I doubt the patients will even notice. You could do something like stuff a banana down there.
Now where it will hurt you is with finding a wife. Having a small penis is a huge handicap. My recommendation is to look for a good christian girl, who doesn't believe in sex B4 marraige. This way, by the time she see's it, you will be married. Catholic would be even better because they frown deeply on divorce. That's all I can suggest for your "problem "
