Im considering taking it in August, just to make sure that my time later on is freed up for whatever may come my way (interviews, rotations, etc.) Does the extra 6 months help that much?

all military people take it early and we all did ok 😀

the only downside is that you don't get the school's board review and don't get any time off to study unless you use your vacation time.

I took it early and I am non-military. The test is pretty much a joke no matter when you take it. I took two weeks of vaction time off to study, but would say I think it is possible to study enough without taking any time off if you plan an easy rotations such as radiology, etc. I am thankful I took it when I did because I have nothing on my plate other than interviewing for residency. Keep in mind that you would have to worry about both whether you passed the test and the upcoming match days in Feb or March. Both results would come around the same time....so for what it is worth, take it in August!

idiopathic,at NSU we are required to take it in august.Students only take it in janurary if they fail.I think i would rather get it over with early and worry about electives and interviews and such later.

for your other question you posted about, i would like to know as well. For me i think im going to take step2 1 week after the comlex.im not going to take the usmle CS. I will wait tosubmit my scores until after all my interview invites are finished.
you did so well on both exams last time around, there is NO reason that you will not do just as well on step 2.

just fyi: we're going to have more options than just aug & jan. when we (c/o2006) get round to step 2 it'll be computerized and have approx 40 testing dates. When I talked to the NBOME, they weren't certain of how those 40 dates will be distributed throughout the year for step 2.

LECOM makes us take it in August as well, and I'm kind of glad that it is that way. I passed, I have all my residency interviews finished (haven't heard from one place, but it's at the bottom of my list anyway), and now I am just vegging out for the rest of the year. 😎 🙂 All I have left is COMLEX-PE, which we only have to sit for to graduate.

I say COMLEX-II sucks no matter when you take it. (But Idio, I remember you smoked COMLEX-I, so you shouldn't have any problems 🙂 )
