Who looks better?

I think your question is flawed because 27-30 is a range you really need to parse out -- is it 30 to 35 or 27 to 35? Because the former was already borderline while the latter really wasn't at a lot of places.

Either way, except for the couple of schools that only care about your highest score, most would prefer b, the person who took it once and did well. But there is a lot more to the application than MCAT scores so either or neither of these guys might be getting into med school.

So are you saying that getting a 30 the first time and a 35 the second looks bad compared to getting a 33 one time around? (even though 35 is a higher score?)
I know there's a lot more to an app, but I was wondering how this is viewed just in terms of MCAT...

Yes, I'm saying that.

Definitely favor the person who takes it one time. You only get one shot to take Step 1 and Step 2, so you wanna prove to adcoms that you can adequately prepare for a big test the first time.

Ignoring the ridiculousness of this question and the problem @Law2Doc brings up, I'd rather go with B than A. But there's a distinction between a 27 and a 30; getting a 35 after a 27 is impressive and would overall be a positive in my view. It wouldn't be as impressive going from a 30 to a 35.

Regardless, this is a pointless question and comparisons like this aren't actually how admissions works.

The type A scenario seems to happen every so often in the reapp section of the forum. In the end, the latter would be preferred.
