ive found some pretty obvious errors throughout destroyer and odyssey and 2 in crack tests. some are obvious and others are less obvious, but either way i think they can negatively affect peoples experience. is there enough previous threads to make compiling these worthwhile? that way when someone buys them they can immediately correct the errors. it seems like this would especially help the people with the older destroyer editions since they seem to get printed as errors are found and corrected.

if you guys think this sticky would be a tangible contribution (it would need to be for all review materials) let me know. i dont have time to do searches and find all the errors but i would be willing to donate my destroyer (aug 08 print) and odyssey books (ill throw in the kaplan blue book too) to whoever volunteers. neither book has any writing in them so theyre like new. this will only be an offer if people think it would be useful and theres actually enough error threads to be compiled to justify me giving away over $100 in review materials.

id like the thread to be for ALL materials so this isnt a 10 minute task, it will prob take an entire day for someone to get it ready. let me know what you guys think about the idea.

Who will be responsible for double checking the "errors"?

Who will be responsible for double checking the "errors"?

id be fine with that. anyone here could easily take the errors to a professor on campus for review. a lot of them dont even need someone to doublecheck them. ive found ones in destroyer that were painfully obvious. the most recent was one with an "ester" reacting with LiAlH4 and he has the wrong answer chosen since he claims its an ester but the drawing shows a VERY clear kink where he added an extra carbon between the ester oxygen and the carbonyl carbon. then i had another one where he asked whether a reaction was first or second order and it clearly showed inversion but he had E1 listed and then his explanation only says "there is inversion of configuration!" and that was it. then another one where he showed oxymercuration but then had the nucleophile attack the less substituted carbon despite it being a very small nucleophile like he wasnt actually paying attention. then another one where he says to chose which molecules are linear and he had CO and C2H2 as options and then a 3rd option that said "2 of the above" and his answer was only CO. :/ I see a lot of errors like these which makes me lose confidence in his answers when mine are different. all the ones above are quite basic and dont require anything other than free thinking to know theyre wrong, no double checking required.

Very well then. Wow, your post just made me realize what a waste of time orgo was. I don't even remember what oxymercuration is anymore, or what happens to an ester in LAH. If I had guess I would say the ester breaks into two alcohols but ehh what do I care. -_-

Good Luck

it generally does break into 2 alcohols (well, alkoxide ions, but acid workup is usually assumed), lol. the problem is that the one in the question wasnt an ester due to a clear carbon between the ester oxygen and the carbonyl carbon, lol.
