I was just curious to know who will definitely be attending MCP Hahnemann. Also, does anyone know if their class is full yet? I interviewed there early march--did I just interview for a waitlist position?

I interviewed there in early March as well and if I recall correctly, the admissions coordinator told us that the class was not full and that they were still sending "outright" acceptances. I don't know if that will still be true when the March interviewees go to committee but I'm hopeful, only because I believe they are going to be interviewing until the end of May. I hope that was helpful.

I heard that the people they interviewed in early March were people they definetly want! They waited that long because they weren't sure these people even want to come to MCP. But I heard that about people who were interviewed in October (like myself). I am on wait-list. I keep my ears close to the ground on this school because I live in Philly.

hey medicine2006,

how did you find out that the march interviewees are the ones that they want? My invite was early february...but they didn't have any free spots until end of february or march. Why are they taking so long??!!!

Does anyone know how much the interview is actually weighed in the admissions process? Also, are all applicants more or less on equal ground by the time they get an interview?

I think that the interview is huge in the admissions process. Actually, I think that my interview got me an acceptance at MCP. I interviewed in October. During my interview, we had a lengthy discussion about my low MCAT scores. My interviewer told me that he was on the admissions committee and that he was going to fight for me in the upcoming committee meeting because some of the members of the committee are get hung up on MCAT scores...so essentially, he told me that since my interview went so well, he thought that I deserved a place in the class.

Also, I withdrew my acceptance from MCP this past week, so that opened up a new spot in the class. Best of Luck at MCP!

Great, there go my chances. I don't feel great about my interview. It started out real rocky. Hey lyle, do you mind posting your scores or pm them to me. It be nice to know where I stand in the scheme of things. Also, do you remember the name of your interviewer? I would appreciate any info. Thanks.

Dr. Will, I interviewed with Dr. Marc Newman.

Here are my Stats:

MCAT: 8V, 10P, 10B, S

GPA (overall): 3.8
(AMCAS science) 3.9

I can tell you more if you would like to know. I hope this helps. I truly wish you the best of luck in this sucky process. I know how bitter I feel about it, and I'm sure that you all feel the same way.

What's going on with that school? Last I've heard from them was being put on hold.

Lyle,

Your scores aren't bad at all. I think I'll have a big problem come committee time. I have an 8,8,13 MCAT (horrible score in my opinion). Plus I had what I considered to be an awful interview. Looks like I might be repeating this process next year then.

I just interviewed at MCP last week and the admissions lady said that they accept a whopping 800 students to fill their class of 250 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />
She also said that thus far they had only accepted 567 and would be interviewing at least until the end of may.
hope that helps a bit!

hey moneyjane: are you sure that MCP's accepting 800 students this year? i think they did that last year, which happened to be a more unusual year.

CityIvy, have you noticed how many people have been dropping MCPHU like a bad habit, on this forum??? drops left and right like MCP's got the plague!! works for me though. i want people to drop it so i can pick up their leftovers and grub on THAT for a while. he he. anywayz, i totally understand how MCP would have to accept like 800 or so to fill their class because their one of the worst schools out there (not counting those lost souls like Wright State and company).

But hey, hopefully we see each other there, because i really liked the technology and feel of the place. it was as good or better than any other school to me...it's just that it has a bad rep (word of mouth wise).

I have heard good things about MCP. What is this bad rep stuff? Other than the bankrupcy issue.

Caveman, I know that MCP accepts a lot of people and that many people are dropping their acceptances, but I'm just worried that by the time they review my file (early March interview), there won't be any spots left. Do you think that I just interviewed for a spot on the waitlist?

Although this may not be relevant this year, last year I interviewed at MCPHU in late March (maybe even early April, I can't remeber exactly)and was given an outright acceptance eight weeks later. If I get a chance, I'll ask Lisa how full the class is for those of you that are still waiting to hear. Let me kow if you have any questions about the school etc.

Tony

Lisa said that about 600 acceptances have gone out so far and they expect between 700-800, including the waitlist I believe.

Tony

ask,

are you in the IMS, or MSP program?

Does anyone know if they've finished rendering decisions on the February interviews yet? I'm already at 5 weeks...just three more to go!

Just in case you were wondering, I interviewed in the last week of January and I had just received the waitlist letter this past weekend. So that's a good two and a half months waiting period.

Hey city Ivy
Yeah, I interviewed there on April 2 and Lisa (the adcom lady) specifically said they accept 800 to fill their 250 spaces. When asked, she said that they had already handed out 567 acceptances...I remember 'cause everyone in the room sorta gasped, and I wrote the figs down to make sure that I would believe myself later. All of us interviewees discussed it when she left the room and figured that a lot of the Penn residents that they accept must also get accepted to one of the other schools in the state (Upenn, Temple...) where in state tuition is a lot lower than at a private school like MCP. Hope that clarifies stuff. They said that we would hear in 8 weeks, but she made it clear that, as of that day (4/2), they still had 300 straight acceptances left to hand out.
Good Luck to anyone counting/waiting on MCP.

Someone on this thread previously asked how much the interview weighs in the committee decision. Well....
When I showed up to MCP I was horribly ill. My ear drums were bulging, couldn't hear a thing, I had a cold, and had nausea. When I went into my interview (with an administrator, black woman, can't remember her name) I just didn't give a ****. I wanted to go home. the interview went horrible, I couldn't explain my research on a level where she could understand it, no matter how hard i tried. I basically then blew every question of the interview, HMOs, ethics, whatever she asked.
I interviewed on Jan 23, and received the waitlist letter postmarked on April 5th. My stats were 3.61 gpa, 32P MCAT. I thought for sure I was gonna get a rejection from them. Make of that what you will. I have no clue anymore what AdComs want (did I to begin with?). Good luck.

I hope that's good news for me! In my mind I blew the ethical questions I was given within the first five minutes of my interview. Talk about stress! There is still hope!

Did anyone have Dr. Kantner (the dean of admissions) as their faculty interviewer?

I was interviewed by Dr Kantner, mid-April. He didn't grill me, and we talked about a bunch of things including the usual stuff (What qualities should a doctor have, for ex). He had taught at a school I've been accepted to, and discussed differences between MCP and that school. Did you interview with Dr Kantner, Cityivy?

hey castaway,

i interviewed with Dr. Kantner in March. i thought the interview went pretty well, even though he did ask me a few really tough ethical questions. at the end of the interview, i asked him for feedback and he said that he would "support my application". i was just wondering if he actually meant what he said or if he said it to all the people he interviewed. how do you think your interview with him went?

hi CityIvy,

I also had an interview with Dr. Kantner. Just to clarify your question, he did not mention that statement you posted. BTW, he also asked me quite a few difficult questions although I suspect his intention was good anyway. I had a much positive feeling from my student interviewer afterward. Right now, I'm also waiting for result. Is there anything I can do to improve my chance to get in?

hey mag master, when did you interview?

hi CityIvy,

It seems that only you and me are interested in MCP for now =) Anyhow, my interview was early last week. Lisa told us they have accepted about 600 some students already and there are still seats left. (remember, they intend to take around 800 students). Lisa also said it should take 6-8 weeks to hear the final result. I have a long way to go and just want to wish you all the good luck!

Despite what others comment about this school, I feel very comfortable there. I think anyone can achieve a lot in MCP as long as he/she puts her heart in.

Hi cityivy--my interview with Dr Kantner went pretty well. He also told me he'd support my application. I think he said he'd "endorse" my application. Yeah, I wonder if this is his standard line to those he interviews. I did not get any tough questions; more along the lines of getting-to-know-you stuff. The interview was 25-30 minutes. He seemed like a nice guy, and spoke quite candidly about MCP.

Even though I have an acceptance to one of my state schools, it sure would be nice to be accepted to MCP. I think it's a swell school. I stayed with a student the night before my interview, and took me to a party that some 1st years were throwing. I felt really comfortable with this diverse group of people. I also liked the extensive tour we get. There's something to be said for Texas hospitality (I'm from TX), but my visit to MCP reinforced my feeling that if there's a place I wanna go out of state it's Hahnemann.

I really enjoyed the school and the people when I was there. If I get accepted, I will probably attend since I got no love from the UC's.
