Who's gotten the boot? i.e, Rejections!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
cleveland clinic and rush both put my application thru the paper shredder... but got interview at u of chicago. go figure?? plus who wants to be in cleveland....j/k

Iowa right out of the gate (early September).

i got rejected from Rush, Iowa and Wayne State within about a week of applying

I got canned by Cleveland Clinic and Rush

Scooby,

just wondering what the top 10 programs are in your mind? Thanks...

~

Chica,

for top 20, I'd say stuff like mgh / ucsf / jh / penn / columbia / uab / duke / etc........ of which, i've heard from 3 of those above.

also got the boot from rush and wayne state. as well as cleveland clinic, u. of florida, u. of michigan, cornell, MGH. Oh well, at least i have 8 interviews...

MGH, today, email. First rejection! I guess if you're going to be rejected, it may as well be from Haaaavaahd. This doesn't bode well for my BWH app. Although I did get an interview at BID.

when do programs actually reject you? There are some programs that I haven't heard from but I know have offered interviews. Should I give up on them??

I'm a 2nd year student, trying to figure some stuff out regarding post graduate training. My question is this: what does it matter whether you do a "top 20" residency or do it at a run of the mill academic center? in the end, aren't you still going to be an anesthesiologist? Is there a lot of competition in the job market, such that a residency from an upper echelon institution will make a big difference? Thanks and good luck!

Larry

Larry,

If you don't go to a "top 20" school then there is no way you will ever find a job in anesthesiology. Just kidding. You might want to make a thread instead of putting your post within the "rejections" thread.😎

To Larry Renal,

Yeah man, quit jackin Da Boot thread!!! +pissed+

No love from my current home of Arizona

Rejected by vandy - weird cause I've got interviews at programs with better reps, first reject so far, so who needs em?

Past two days, U of Colorado and Vandy found the drain. The rest of my apps, at big places, I presume are circling it...

University of Colorado this morning...it has been a rough few days and I am not optimistic this trend will change

Just recieved the rejection from Dartmouth 11/13 via email

decided to quit checking my email and give some programs a buzz.... got the heave-ho from cornell, mgh, columbia, emory, duke, mayo. still on "hold" at hopkins, case, st. vincents, tulane, and NYU. interview from BUMC today. this whole process is just like applying to med school... annoying

Is this really how the process works? By getting lucky and calling at the right time you may get an interview...Doesn't seem right somehow. Also, I would hope that programs will let you know when your application is rejected just out of common courtesy.

2 of the above programs said that they sent me emails last week rejecting me. either they were lying to me or there was something wrong with ERAS. one of the above programs, the secretary was rather curt with me, saying that we only call those we want to interview. not to mention names, but this program was in minnesota 🙂 i strongly feel, that some programs would not have given me the courtesy of notification of rejection....definitely not cool..

Univ Conn, Cleaveland Clinic, Rush, Univ FL, Mayo Clinic (Jacksonville, FL).

University of Vermont after calling them...

Most of the rejections I have gotten have been after contacting the programs to ask about the status of my application (UVA, Mayo in FL, and Vandy). But I had one work out the other way. I emailed them and they said we have one date left, so I called the day I received the reply and said I would take the date they had available.

Oregon Health Scienes. I had called them and then 2 hours later I recieved an ERAS message.

I was curious if you guys/gals might expand on why you are being rejected at these programs if you know? I plan on applying next year and if they require a certain say USMLE score and I don't meet the cut-off I would like to save some money. Thanks and good luck to you all.

dont be cheap and spend the money on the extra programs..
how much in debt are u in now anyways....

I agree that much of this seems like luck, and most likely it is. I have had some thumbs up and thumbs down, most without any real reason or logic based on popular beliefs or opinions:

Thumbs down:
MGH, Stanford, U of Arizona, JH, Colorado, Virginia Mason

Thumbs up:
St. Vincents, NYU, Beth Israel, U of CHicago, UIC, Northwestern, Med College of Wisconsin, U Miami, U of Iowa, U of Utah, U Conn

Still waiting for my Vandy, U Washington, Cornell, OHSU, places like that. Did any of the above places only give word once you called, either good or bad???? That would be nice to know.

I emailed Vandy and UVA and got rejections. I started to wonder if they would have said anything to me at all if I had not contacted them.

more rejections: 😕

Drexel, UConn (they offered me an interview and then sent me an email a month later stating that they made a mistake and placed my appl in the wrong file!! they did this after i scheduled an interview and made travel arrangements!! shame on them!), st. lukes-roosevelt, mayo-jacksonville, UIC, cleveland clinic

That sucks

Ditto, that does suck. Haven't heard dick from MGH, Cornell, Sinai, U. Wash. I've heard that people have heard from the first three, so I was wondering if they have sent out a lot or if the invites are trickling out. If its been a lot I was going to call them to see where I stand. Have people been rejected by Sinai and Cornell yet?

Passed up by Penn state....they stated they had 450 applications
UCSD via email

Cornell sent me there regrets, no love lost though cause the scoop on scutwork.com is that it's malignant to the bone. Midtown Manhattan though is phat...

I too have read the reviews of the Cornell program and find that odd. I went to CUMC (now J&SIWSOMACU) and graduated in 2000. When I did anesthesia as a rotation, it seemed VERY laid back and the impression I got was that the attendings would come in every hour and offer breaks to the residents. Perhaps that was a fluke and a recruiting tool, I don't know. Several of my classmates went into gas there and should be finishing this year. Haven't heard complaints from them yet as CA-3s.

Would recommend visiting and privately querying the residents when alone with them.

Just my $0.02.

Dissed by Virginia Mason and Colorado in the same day (ouch!). Florida 2 days later. Bad week, but I will dry my eyes with paper from all the other interview offers!!!

Got interview for UCSD last week, tried to schedule but was informed today that all spots are filled and I am on a "waiting list". Why the hell would they offer the interview if they don't have enough spots. Have any other schools done this? Hope this is still relevant to the thread.

voted off the island by:
VMMC, UCSD, Colorado, Man's Greatest Hospital, and stanford.

See if they get christmas presents from me this year!:horns:

Also rejected by Duke!!!!!!!!!!!
