Who's more likely to get in- someone on the waitlist or someone who interviews post-Dec?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Or are they equal?
This is all school dependent....they may give new interviewees the chance, or they may interview people for the waitlist, people on waitlists right now are currently unranked, they will rank the new interviewees along with the wait-listers shortly

Is this a standard thing? Just curious how you know this for sure. I'm currently waitlisted at a couple of places so any info appreciated

I'm just basing off of schools whose threads i've stalked. People who get waitlisted early tend to get off of them, however people who interview late tend to end up on these exact waitlists and dont get off.

its a case by case thing of course, but those were the trends I've seen from numerous threads in previous cycles. I am more comfortable being on a waitlist off of a pre-dec than interviewing later. Just my two cents.

I see! I should probably take a look at past threads of the schools I'm waitlisted at and see how waitlisted candidates fared in contrast to post-dec interviewees. Thanks!

Yup, every dental school is run differently.. Very important to not assume that just because Dental School A operates like this, Dental School B will as well.

I'm sure every case is different. For example, I was offered a UNLV interview in august but didn't act on it for a month and ended up getting a date in december

This makes me feel a little better, I'm currently on the waitlist at my top 2 choices. I have an interview in January as well. Trying to stay hopeful. Thanks guys!

This is such an arbitrary question because there are so many factors at play. There are real people behind every admissions decision made so they don't follow any set of rules. There are a number of individuals in my class who were accepted with a post-Dec interview date despite an enmorous waitlist and I'm certain that is also the case at other programs.
