Hey guys, this might sound like a dumb question, but are Middle Eastern (Arabs or Persians) considered in the minority group. Reason I ask is because the aren't listen as one of the options for minorities in applications. Thanks for all your help.

First of all, Asians are not considered a 'minority' for USA admission standard. Secondly, virtually all Arabs and Persian in dental school are filthy rich so they don't fall under the 'minority' status.

They are not given any minority privledge status but you can always articulate in your personal statement that you are ethnically arab or persian and that is important to schools who value diversity. That said, if your GPA and DAT scores arent at least up to par, they dont give a crap where any1 is from. Thus, keep your grades up and play every card you have. Go down the diversity route but also make sure you sure you do everything else that other applicants do like volunteering and shadowing and stuff like that.

Oh that's cool. I was born in سعوديا I am سوري..but my step mom who raised me is from عراق

I think so long as you're not a white male you are considered a plus for dental schools.

not true. my class is made up of white males moreso than any other type of person.

Sigh

Just bc whites are still the majority at Michigan, doesnt mean President Coleman and Dr. Woolfolk are happy about it. I swear to god "diversity" was every other word coming out of that woman's mouth. Too bad 22 passed, now they have to find another, sneakier away to apply affirmative action. Not that theres anything wrong with diversity, but it can't be blindly based on race like it is/has been. It just got ridiculously out of hand.

If Michigan as a state is like 75-80% caucasian, does that mean the dental school should reflect those numbers, too? I am not going to pretend to know the answer to that one. 😱

Id be curious to see how many total white applicants there were compared to others and then see the final class ratios compared to that.
