I'm trying to make sure I have a variety of things on my amcas application before I can fill it out. I am a big sister for big brothers big sisters. I was also a dsp for over a year which sometimes I would be by myself for a few hours with the residents. However, I may be offered a managerial position in which I would be in charge of behavior management and staff and such. Should I stay being a dsp and gain more hands on experience or become a manager and swing that in the teaching or leadership section? Could being a big sister be in the leadership or teaching section? I'm just not sure what to do and any advice would be helpful. Thank you!

Can you explain what a DSP is?

I can see big brothers big sisters being a leadership experience. If the activity involved helping with homework, that can also count as teaching. However, if they ask you list your teaching experience hours or list your leadership experience hours, don't double count.

When you say "I'm trying to make sure I have a variety of things on my AMCAS application before I can fill it out", do keep in mind that quality trumps quantity in your activities list. You are better off being involved in a few activities that you genuinely enjoy and are committed to, rather than having a huge list and making it seem like you are just trying to "check boxes". Adcoms want to see that you are doing something because it means something to you, not because you think they want to see it.

I'd call "big brothers big sisters" volunteer non-clinical.
Sometimes teaching-tutoring is paid employment and sometimes it is volunteer, non-clinical. You can decide how you want to play it. In general, if you are teaching kids younger than HS, I'd go with volunteer and if you are teaching college kids I'd go with "teaching-tutoring" unless you are employed by a private group like Kaplan in which case you might want to go with "employment". I think HS is a toss-up.

Leading a group of peers is leadership. If you organize and lead a group of tutors, or band members, or team mates, then that is "leadership".

Usually things that are considered leadership or teaching/tutoring is when you are a leader or you teach and tutor.
