Why are all the USMLE exams so expensive?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
anybody know if Prometric charges an exorbitant fee to have exams displayed through their software, which is then passed on to us? Is Prometric actually doing the highway robbery because they know physicians won't unionize and oppose them?

I am not sure but i think this vender computer delievery fee's is what prometric charges. The net income for USMLE is 110 million so roughly ~20%

That's how much I would pay for a testing system that has worse graphics than my SIMANT game on windows 95

It's not only the graphics. It's a text quiz with occasional pics and audio and click-submit
You can't reinvent a bicycle for smth that simple. And updating software is quite expensive. Even bank payboxes in my city still use windows XP and Java

The problem is absolute lack of understanding on our part how the system works both score wise and money wise. We are only given the opportunity to speculate and draw our own conclusions.
Honestly, sometimes it reminds me of some kind of scam.
