This might be a silly question...

Why are some schools:

Unranked

VS

Rank Not Published?

Thanks!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Unranked means that the school did not provide enough information to US News to be considered for a ranking. Rank not published means that the school did provide enough information but the rank was low enough that US News didn't publish the ranking.

This is interesting! So is the USNWR feeling sorry for schools that DO submit information but end up with a low ranking, by not publishing it? (I'm not phrasing this well...) Or is this just not published unless you get a subscription?

Based on what you've all said, I can see why many schools would not be invested in sending in information when there is bias in favour of funding received. Lol, almost like they're too cool for that 😉

But how about the Primary Care ranking, how is that calculated?

Obviously, these rankings are very flawed. But it does make for effective advertising if you're a "top school." They know that people often refer to these rankings when labeling a school as a "top whatever."

Basically, because US Snooze and Worst Report is basically a racket. No serious medical education professional takes those rankings
seriously.

Whether it's Albany or Yale, ACOM or Western, you'll get a good medical education.

Has anyone ever seen the rankings on findthebest.com? They use a bunch of different criteria that Us News does not.

wtf harvard is a 37 and 3.93 average gpa? I find that extremely hard to believe especially since their own website says it's a 3.8 and 36

I find it extremely easy to believe, considering those are the median numbers straight from the MSAR.

Just curious, is findthebest.com credible? I know rankings don't matter but just curious.

msar lists stats for accepted students, not for matriculants. findthebest.com lists their stats as the median for incoming freshman but it doesn't jive with the posted numbers from harvard's website. and there's a huge difference between a 3.8 and 3.93 especially if you're talking about averages

Have you seen this only for Harvard or other schools as well? I would imagine they got their info from somewhere like msar but if it doesn't match up I'm not sure where it could be coming from.

I just checked harvard because it was the first one and the numbers seemed astronomical. My own school looks about right although I only know the numbers for my year which are slightly off from the numbers they posted

Interesting... I kind of like the criteria they incorporated and info they provide but not sure I am sold on the numbers. I wish they sourced their data.

You're right, but I think that's a mistake on their website, because right below it is says:

The average GPA of students admitted to Harvard Medical School is 3.93. It will undoubtedly be more difficult to gain admission into schools with high average admitted GPA scores. Be realistic in your expectations and apply to schools accordingly.

but yea, I honestly think they just ripped the data off of the MSAR.
