I'm just curious as to what the reasoning was. Is it because with the DO residencies going away they are wanting to make applicants overall more competitive, or is it unrelated?
Unrelated but overall i think its jist because DO school is becoming more competative relative to MD. They have enough competative applicants to do this and filter out students that might not do as well.
It’s related to the residency merger in a loose sense, in that it’s part of the overall effort to decrease the stigma against DOs and equalize standards between DO and MD schools.
