Hi I was considering getting into a D.O school and have no more preference for an MD school over a DO school. However, after hearing a lot of students I dont understand why they corelate a DO as a second alternative to an MD.
Do DO's get paid any less than MD's in their area of expertise?
Is it harder for a DO to find a job than an MD?

Can anyone provide me with some information about the DO/Phd path?

info about me: 5yrs in the US/permenant resident
GPA 3.45+
MCAT 25 9/7/9
2yrs research

thanks!

--> There are much fewer D.O. schools, and thus they are not as well known.

--> No, it's like having a B.A. vs a B.S. degree

Hello Dreambig2night--

Osteopathy was originally founded off a different approach to medicine than allopathic medicine, or traditional medicine if you will. You can find all kinds of information about the history of osteopathy by checking out the AOA's website. www.osteopathic.org.

Today, you don't really see much difference between DOs and MDs in practice, with the exception of DOs that use OMM (osteopathic manipulative medicine). OMM is also the major difference between the two during the school years. DOs are taught OMM and MDs aren't.

Your questions about pay, areas of expertise and finding jobs have all been discussed about to death on these forums, do a search and you should come up with a lot of info!

G'luck...

J
