Seriously I don't get it. I am currently in dental school and the stress is just so overwhelming.. From having study almost every day and sometimes the result isn't what you are expecting. Having to practice for a practical when you have like 4 didactic tests the upcoming week. The knot in the stomach that you will experience every time you take a test (there will be a ton of them) and the heart pounding moment when the results are posted... The sad feeling that you get when you see others are having a normal life (being able to go out, have a nice relationship, etc) will make your days feel miserable. All of this just so you can be in debt for 10, 15 or even 20 years until you start to bring home a 'dentist' pay. WHY DO PEOPLE WANT TO DO THIS???

I didn't know it was gonna be this stressful...

Dental school is not that stressful if you settle for Bs.

Or maybe they weren't that smart...

Dental school curriculum is also standardized, so I don't know why you think some are easier than others. Anyway, passing a class with a C is very easy no matter what class it is. On the other hand, getting a 4.0 is quite tough.

have you started dental school yet?

From my experience so far, I agree with @studentdent00 . You would have to really not study, and actually do nothing to not pass a course. Although I agree that some schools might be "easier" than others, it depends on your class and as an individual to either do well or bad in dschool. You would have to really try to academically fail out of from dschool.

I think it's all about perspective. For example, if you disconnect with all your previous friends and just make the people in your dental school your friends, you will see that a lot of them are in the same boat you are, no need to be jealous. Having too many tests can be stressful and discouraging when the results are terrible. It just means adjusting your expectations. I'm not in dental school yet, but I know a bit about the feeling since I started switching from 15 to 19 credit hour semester in order to graduate this spring. Every test result so far this semester are around Bs and Cs and Ds. I have about 17 tests left for the remaining 12 weeks (at least 1 test every week) + having to worry about graduation requirements/exit exams/senioritis. I'm not going to say I am having the time of my life but I just kind of think about it as going to the beach. At the beach, if you go to into the water, there will be big waves and small waves that hit you/prevent you from having a fun swim. But your original goal wasn't going to the beach to get hit by waves, it is going to the beach.

Sorry went a little Asian philosophy on you but if you get the point, please cheer up. ^^

lol, i thought this was going to be one of those threads where everyone gives a reason as to why they want to be a dentist.

Finally! We need more posts like this to keep the competition down. Yes dental school sucks! Go do pharmacy instead, I heard the job outlook is amazing.
I agree with Dipdoc because of those nice eyebrows.

You should only become a dentist if you cant see yourself doing anything else. Its a lot of hard work and you will have to sacrifice to become a dentist. For me, it has been worth it. I was an average student and now I am an above average dentist with an above average income. My loans were just paid off in 2014 and I graduated in 1991 from LLU. Still worth it!!! My advice to the person complaining is to "get out now" or "suck it up" and do your best. If you have this attitude now you might have a lot of regrets when you become a dentist. Its really now that bad. Change your attitude or change your career. We really don't need any more dentists that don't like their careers. Just say'n!!!

Oh poor child. You have to study almost every day! It's like you're working in a coal mine! And the stress of exams being posted! Surely, you must be experiencing a sense of dread that only those fighting on the battlefields of Iraq could possibly approach! So tragic, your life must be.

Stress is a part of life, these two sayings help me power through a lot:

When the going gets tough the tough get going!

Anything worth a while takes a while!

To the OP, if you feel dental school is a lot of work, then drop out and work in a fast food place or elsewhere. Life is all about stress and you have to kick your butt at times and work hard to get where you want. Nothing in life is given to you, but instead you have to work hard for it!

I feel bad for those other applicants who were trying to get into that school and instead you were chosen. What a waste of a seat.
