This may be a stupid question...but why do people withdraw applications? Especially if you already sent a check??

if say you get into one of your choice schools and you know you wont be going to a certain school, its courtesy (and good Karma) to withdraw so that may free up an interview or acceptance for someone who doesnt have one

There's no point in going to an interview if you already were accepted to a school that you would be more likely to attend. It wastes the school's time and money, not to mention your own. 🙂

I second that.....also since you already know that you are in and there is no chance whatsoever (except for maybe a full ride) that you will be attending this other school...I don't think you want to waste you and their time/money. common courtsey and common sense plus good karma as cornell2004 said ...so there you go...what everyone said in a nice little summary.......

that doesn't mean that everyone will do that....yu will find people who will hold on to every last acceptance till May 15 and to wait-list even longer if they can....what drives them is anyone's guess.....(feeling good about number of acceptances, ego I don't know or simply waiting to compare financial package...)

I think he/she means why withdraw your app pre-interview from other schools? I question that as well. Why the hell not see if you get an interview there when you paid for them to check out your app. Withdrawing post-sec/pre-interview is a complete waste of money and basically is like giving them a donation. I say, I paid for it, so I should satisfy my curiousity to see if I get an interview, even if there's no way in hell I'd go to it.

Because if the adcom. stops spending time on your app, maybe they can reveiw someone else's who would have a better chance of going to the given school than you. I don't think you should care much about pride at that point (at least I don't), because you are obviously a good applicant if you got accepted to a medical school.
