Why do some schools ask for your ACT/SAT score?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Three potential explanations:

1. Gauge the competitiveness of your undergraduate institution
2. Provide context for your performance on standardized tests
3. Make you waste 30 minutes of your day trying to log on to Collegeboard

Lol, I had the same thought.

The one school that did want it justified their asking with the "it aids in our holistic review of your app." Alright, I guess? My ACT percentile was a full 15% below my MCAT, so if anything they might just look for trends.

I guess... My ACT was below the 50th percentile because like most 17 year olds I was immature, didn't know what I wanted in life, didn't care about the test and didn't prep for it. Then I grew up in college and my MCAT is ~90th percentile. Though if I had the maturity back then that I have now I could have easily done the same on the ACT, as I'm sure most of us could. It just seems like a silly thing to ask for or include in the process.

Actually hope I don't run across those, because my SAT and ACT percentiles were higher than my MCAT percentiles. 99/99/93, respectively.

Funny thing is I actually prepped for the MCAT and didn't for the other two. It is what it is.

..well, you are competing against a completely different crowd for the MCAT (mostly people in/graduated college, and have taken chemistry, orgo, biologies, physics and biochem) vs the SAT/ACT (every high school junior in the country)

I know one school that allows you to use your GPA+SAT/ACT score to pass their primary screening if you haven't receive your MCAT score yet.
