I promise this is lighthearted! Two schools I interviewed out sent out interview goodies. One sent a school-specific coffee tumbler and notebook among other things, and another sent out stickers. I appreciate the gestures of gratitude/recruitment, but if you're going to reject me then these things will just haunt me every time I use them (it's a really good tumbler, and the stickers are really cute).
A better model--imo--is to send them out to accepted students only. At that point, even if you decline the acceptance, they at least tried to recruit you and make you feel special.
As a side note, I'm extremely grateful for the opportunities I've had, and I really appreciate the effort on the schools' part.
This is gonna be a longggggg cycle.
