Why do supplemental applications ask what other schools you are applying to?

I have run into this question multiple times. How do you respond? I have listed a couple, but not every single school I am applying to. I am just curious why they want to know this information.

Hey, there was another post on here about this and someone made a great point. I think they ask to see the quality (I really dont know what they meant by this) of schools you are applying to? Also, maybe to see if you are just applying to a bunch of different schools that have lower stats requirements.

After this cycle, well past when you will hear about your acceptances and rejections, PTCAS will provide a list of where applicants received acceptances and their decisions (turn them down or accept). However, they will not report the rejections. Im not really sure how it works since this will be the 1st time they will report this, but I believe in my case: I applied to 16 programs. I already got rejected to one and was accepted to one. If I happen to get another acceptance, PTCAS will only report that I was accepted to 2 schools and will tell the 16 programs that I applied to about my accpetances and decisions. They wont tell them about my rejections.

IDK if this will play anything into reporting the other schools you applied to. I was up front and really honest with my supplemental apps and I listed all 16 of them LOL.

I always wondered why they asked this too... I know as an applicant I want every school I apply to, to think that they are the ONE school that I would LOVE to attend 😉

Maybe by asking, they force us to be honest!!
