It's all in good fun. We have to laugh at how ridiculous the application cycle is at times.

Plus, someone has to be on the bottom.

But no really, the lunch was terrible.

But no really, the lunch was terrible.

I seriously first thought that they were going to be serving our meal in courses. Start with a salad, then move on to the main entree. No such thing happened.

I went out to eat literally right after the "lunch" and had a real meal (and by that I mean a 20pc. chicken mcnugget with large fries).

Salad is actually an overstatement. It was iceberg lettuce, dressing, and bacon bits...that's not a salad if you ask me. No tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, etc.

That's really all they gave you? Lol wtf.

We pretend like we're joking but we're not.

I wonder if it was like that this year.

NSU had sandwiches, wraps, cookies, fruit salad, and chips. Wasn't anything special, but it was at least a legit lunch.

Touro NV promised dinner for their afternoon interview. I wonder what that's going to be like...

😱 Is this at LECOM-B or LECOM Erie?

Also, can it be considered rude to bring your own snacks -granola bar, chips- and eat those instead if such horrible lunch was offered?

Its also so deliciously ironic too how everyone complains about taking on debt in medical school when LECOM is the cheapest private DO school and they rag on it. A medical degree is a medical degree is a medical degree, and picking the cheapest option in my opinion seems to be the smartest move, especially if you want to end up in a lower reimbursed field.

But that's just my premedical student money math coming out.

So then are we saying that MD = DO = Caribbean?

i'm only trying to rustle your jimmies, don't kill me.

Sounds like a wedge salad...and those are delicious.

 DrWily your a good guy, commence jimmie rustleing if you wish.

I honestly dont care if someone goes to the caribean, I wont think of them as lesser people, so I guess in a way yes they are all equal. However, it is a much riskier endeavor.

I was going on the notion of the lunches. So what if a school has bad lunches, if they are the cheapest place to get your degree and allow you to get into the specialty of your choosing, seems like the smartest move to me. isn't the difference between Lecom and other osteopathic schools tuition like $15,000? Isn't that $60,000 saved over the next four years?

Again seems like the smartest move for me ceteris paribus, and I think Lecom is a strong school match wise. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong

Like I said above, we're really just making fun of the application cycle and it's adventures. We really aren't judging LECOM's quality as a school based on its lunch. But when you pay the primary fee, secondary fee, fly on a jet to Detroit, then a smaller jet to Erie, PA, stay overnight, and attend an interview at a medical school which boasts about having no debt and tons of cash, you'd expect something more than a salad lunch that looked like it came straight out of a bag amirite?

DrWily I think maybe thats exactly why they have tons of cash...they didn't spend it on our lunches . When I went there LECOM gave us a taco bar with salad. It was fun seeing interviewees gingerly assembling and eating the tacos carefully to avoid getting it on their nice clothes 😛.

I have never complained about medical school debt. The idea of attending the cheapest school you can applies only to US MD schools. In general, all US MD schools are created equal in that you will have the same (with exception to top 10) opportunities of matching and ending up somewhere you want to be. Not all DO schools are created equal. There is a huge difference between the middle-tier schools and the lower-tier schools. Perhaps LECOM isn't a lower tier school, but I'm more than willing to pay the extra tuition to be somewhere I know for a fact is going to put me in a good position when trying to match 4 years from now.

From the CIB:
LECOM OOS Tuition = $30k, COL $20k
Nova OOS Tuition = $44k, COL $38k
DMU OOS Tuition = $39k, COL $23k

While Nova is undoubtedly one of the most expensive DO schools to attend (MSU, CCOM also come to mind) I think few would disagree that, in terms of the quality of the school, DMU is better than LECOM even considering the $12k difference in tuition.

Just my opinion though.

And if you do the HPSP cost of tuition doesn't even matter. 😀

it will cost 82k a year to go to school at Nova? that is absolutely ridiculous.

It costs almost 130K less to go to Lecom. How do people justify spending that kind of money.

Lots of reasons.

1. They like Nova better than other schools they get into
2. They only get into Nova
3. They realize they'll be making $150k+ and loans won't be a big deal
4. They value happiness more than money
5. They realize there's more to choosing a school than money
6. The realize that saving $130k isn't worth being miserable for 4 years
7. Nova is a better school than LECOM.

😱 Is this at LECOM-B or LECOM Erie?

At LECOM-E. We actually had wraps, chips, cookies at LECOM-B.

yea, they have cheap tuition, but they have to put up with a lot of "rules" that seems entirely unnecessary at a professional level. Some people try to justify the dress code, no food/drink outside cafeteria, assigned seating, mandatory attendance, etc. Personally, I wouldn't want to deal with that so I don't go there. Some people don't mind, so they do go there. It's all about the best fit for YOU.

So for me, I'd rather pay the extra 10k tuition to be comfortable for 4 years than save 40k (which I'll make very quickly once I'm practicing) and be miserable. Let me tell ya, it's nice to roll out of bed and throw on gym shorts and a t shirt and be comfortable in class all day.

What school u at bro?

Edit:
I was assuming you were speaking about gym shorts at med school from experience. I really just want to know what schools you can do that at. Since its probably most everyone but LECOM you can ignore this post. Lol

Well, I am speaking from experience. It's basically what I wear to class every day. I'm not sure about other schools with dress codes, but I know LECOM is mostly (minus OMM/Anatomy lab) professional dress on the reg. I remember hearing they're a bit more uptight at Erie.

Could you provide the reasoning behind this statement? My jimmies are not rustled, just curious 😀

You must be Canadian. Here in Amurca the most expensive things are always the best.

The M1s at Nova said they have to wear scrubs or professional attire. That might only be for M1 though, I'm not sure.

huh, that's very good to know.

AZCOM can wear whatever you want (within reason). You WILL see people walking around in all shades of blue scrubs but they are dental students. The dudes wearing BBall shorts and flipflops are med students.

Dude, we're chasing each other around these threads! Lol
I wanna wear flip flops and bball shorts to med school. Dat look

The M2s giving the tour were in scrubs, and I didn't see any students not in scrubs. Pretty sure the dress code extends to M2s

The estimated total cost of attending the program is $141,645.
