a lot of people say that its not good to choose other types of medical or allied health schools if someone can't get into their first choice. i do understand where this is coming from, but i don't think someone'll be miserable if, let's say, they became an optometrist rather than a MD. doctors that i've worked with in hospitals and in their private offices say that it's good to be interested in different fields. i mean, some people just want to work in the health field and would be satisfied as any type of doctor, which i understand. most pre-meds don't even know what kind of doctor they want to be. for instance, in allopathic medical schools, some students don't know if they want to work with eyes, feet, the spine, etc. basically what i'm saying is, if someone knows exactly what they want to be (i.e. dentist), then it's bad to apply to other schools. if not, what's the problem?? and let's say someone wants to become an MD but can't get into the school.. then what would you suggest that they do? either way, they'd have to find another career, so i believe its better to work in the health field as another occupation than another totally unrelated career. just my .02 though...
