Ok forgive me here, but I honestly have no clue what an "OMT" is. And to be totally honest, before I took the prep class for the MCAT, I have no clue what the heck a DO is either. Obviously, I am going for the MD since I would probably fail any interview I get at any DO school.

wow, some really tough love out there. i picked DO because it fit better for me. i never had a backup plan so im not sure about the MD thing. but we will see come the summer, if i get in or not, and then maybe i can give a better assesment. congrats to all of you who did get in and good luck for those still in the struggle. woof.

I didn't mean to offend anyone.

Oh, I think you did. Anyway, I am glad your opinion has changed a bit.

Honestly, I didn't know much about osteopaths until I recently spent time with a DO friend in New York who happens to be in residency.
He used OMT on me. We talked for two days about his career path.
As a massage therapist already, I've had people tell me that I should go the DO route, that it would speak to me more. I agree. I had a vague idea of the roots of cranial-sacral therapy, and to be honest, since I'm not a fully trained C/S practitioner(I have some knowledge of it and use it occasionally), I didn't explore it more. Now I know. And I'm blown away.
With an allopathic father, that was really really difficult to explain, especially with a generation difference (doesn't matter if I'm an adult, I'm still his kid, you know? And I'm nearly 30).
I have apps in to allopathic schools, and I AM NOT applying to osteopathic schools because I've had trouble with allopathic schools. My experience has been quite the contrary, actually with the MD path. I'm applying now to DO schools because I finally have a solid sense of exactly what I'd be learning and experiencing. I have a hard time with the "gunners" - the overly motivated overly competitive people who have lost sight of the compassionate component to medicine. I'm not one of them.
I only hope I can convey that in my applications.
Best of luck to all of you. Be well.

God I'm so sick of these DO vs MD threads!!!

I really wish the mods would ban these idiots with their useless uneducated opinions. Most are pre-med not pre-md or pre-do, most premeds have no freakin' idea of the difference between the two, and more importantly the similarities.

Why? THese are sooo fun!
