Hello,

I wondered if anyone knows why Vermont secondaries ask the question about "list the towns and cities you've lived in and their population numbers." Is that because they think you can't hack small town life in Burlington if you haven't lived in a small town? This is the weirdest secondary question I've ever seen.

Thanks,

T

My guess would be that they are looking to train rural doctors and it is much more likely to return to your roots.

They are trying to determine whether you're a Republican or Democrat

i think they like people who are from small towns - the majority of VT is small towns and lots of them are underrepresented for drs so they are probably looking for people who will want to work in those areas

to gauge how likely you're to practice rural medicine. basically, lie and tell 'em you've always been a country person cuz i know that's what people do to try to get into any primary-care oriented school.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but I can tell you that I don't think it plays a major part in getting in -- I've lived in middle to large size cities my entire life except 4 years of undergrad and I got in -- seriously I wouldn't look too far into it...

Maybe I'll have a better answer for you in a few months...

They've asked that exact same question every year for the past 6 years... That's all I know. (well, to be honest, I don't know if they asked 2 years ago, but I do know for a fact that they asked it all the other years 😳 )

Colorado asked a similar question in years past, or so I've heard. They're looking for people who are willing to work in small towns.
