I've posted this in the pharm forum already..I know I know I shouldn't double post but I wanted to share my thoughts with both comunities😀:

...I just find it sooooooooo annoying. Someone wil be like "I got an interview at X school" and someone else will be like "Congrats, can you please post your stats" and then nothing. What's the big deal about posting your GPA, PCAT scores? If ppl ask you to do so, they just want to figure out where they stand and whether or not they have a shot at X school. It's not like we know who you are.....This is the beauty and purpose of SDN..........So please post your stats if someone asks!! Otherwise keep your interviews/acceptances to yourself!🙂

Someone's stats are not anyone elses business.

Considering that most of the time that someone does post their stats, it prompts a slew of "those stats aren't good enough for you to get in" or "my stats are better, why didn't I get an interview?" from other posters, I don't blame people for not posting them.

Look in the MSAR if you want to find a benchmark for your chances. A single application or a few applications are not a good meter to find out where your application stands.

Ok..then someone else's interviews/acceptances should not be anyone else's business. But they still post those looking for a pat on the back right? I just don't understand ppl sometimes....sigh...ok my rant is over.

Some people also don't want to make themselves more recognizable to adcoms then they already are.

I haven't gotten any interviews/acceptances so there's really no reason for me to post them am I right? But I have posted them before on several other threads...I'm just saying ppl who post about interview offers/acceptances should post their stats if asked. Wow, I thought I made that clear the first time....

cause people give me **** when they see mine
that's why i removed mdapps

the reason that people post interview offers and acceptances is so that people can figure out the timeline of review (in my opinion). ie: if someone was complete after me, got an interview, and an acceptance before i get an interview i am probably screwed at that school. i could not care less about their stats. stats don't tell you that much.

Exactly. Furthermore, if anyone thinks a forum populated with people that are so obsessed with medical school that they post about it constantly, they need to take a statistics course.

Other than finding out when waitlists are moving, interviews are going out etc, I wouldn't draw any definitive conclusions from here.

I agree with this...SDN is very helpful for that kind of "real time" info...also helpful for "tips" on things like the AMCAS, interfolio, etc...and I have learned a lot from some of the more thoughtful posters about different med schools and programs...but all of the rest of the angst and pettiness is good only for entertainment purposes...and the "stats" obsession is right at the top of the entertainment pyramid...

That's an asinine statement. "Post your stats, or don't post your interview/acceptance information".

My neighbor has a pretty nice house. Obviously he is doing well. However, I am not going to demand to see his tax return.

Someone's numbers are their business. If they choose to share, fine. If they don't, that's also fine. You just sound silly claiming that you have a right to other people's personal information prefaced upon the fact that they got an interview and acceptance.

As stated before, you can't draw any conclusions from the numbers here. Why feed your own neurosis?

It's pretty childish.

In fact, it can sometimes be downright scary to think that some of the people on here are going to be in charge of other peoples lives.

Note: I said "some".

So you guys have NEVER EVER looked at someone's thread who says "I got an interview at X" and then looked at their mdapps page to see if their gpa or mcat is similar to yours and then think "hmph, they sent their application same time as me and have similar stats so maybe, just maybe, I have a chance at X school all other factors aside"?

I can always look at the MSAR at the end of the day if I want, but the beauty of SDN is that you can see/compare numbers with your fellow medschool applicants for any school...this is why I get so heated about this. I would never brag about interviews/acceptances if didn't plan on contributing to the SDN forum...its just so mean🙁.

Ok...I'm just sharing my opinions and even though I don't agree with yours I'm not calling it asinine. Insulting someone is not really a strong argument is it now? And I know a lot of people do agree with me so I just wanted to put this out in the open that yes...you guys are not alone. Other people are frustrated too.🙂 Toodles.

it's an unwritten rule that it would be nice if you share but you really don't have to

i don't have a mdapps anymore because of bad experiences with members in the past

Well take my stats for instance: 3.14 13/12/11/R.

The reason I keep my stats on the DL? It's my cell phone number: (314) 131-2117. (R on the keyboard is 7.)

I'd hate for my GPA and MCAT to get into the wrong hands and have people waking me up at 2 AM.

I know..I know..I can't make people post their stats but it would be nice if they would when asked...I was just so frustrated about it this morning......cheers🙂

Do I check peoples numbers if they post them, sure. Do I ask for them if they don't? No. I figure they aren't sharing them for a reason.

Would I whine about someone not sharing their private information on the internet? Never.

I don't understand why you can't grasp this concept. The MSAR represents the statistics for the entire matriculating class. SDN represents a fraction of the whole. It's just basic statistics and common sense. If you flip a coin once and it lands on heads, you wouldn't say that there is a 100% chance that a flipped coin will land on heads.

In the end, despite all the baseless speculation on here ("the average MCAT is going to increase by 5 points because the test is computerized now!" or "The applicant pool has increased by 20% this year!"), I would put money down that when it's all said and done, the class that matriculates next year is going to have similar numbers to the class that matriculated this year.

If you chose to view SDN as a more accurate representation of the whole, that's your perrogative. You'll most likely go bonkers before the year is over though.

BTW, if/when you do interview (I've had three with another one coming up, but I am not going to post my numbers. naner naner), mention SDN and see how many other interviewees have even heard of it.

this is why I get so heated about this. I would never brag about interviews/acceptances if didn't plan on contributing to the SDN forum...its just so mean🙁.

If you are operating off the assumption that life is fair or just, you are in for a rude awakening.

Sure, I look all the time, but I don't trust everything I read here, or on MDApps, either...everything you need to know about "chances" is contained in the MSAR...here you get some nuance about different med school philosophies and maybe some insight into the importance of "fit"...but I think it is pretty useless to look at someone's stats and to extrapolate from that my chances...ultimately all we get here is rampant speculation about the different med schools and their admissions policies, some of it is insightful, but most of it is pure conjecture of very limited value...

The irony is that, I am sure the same people that say "you should post your numbers" are also the ones that post nasty anonymous comments on your MDapps. Why submit to someone elses neurosis? In the end, their opinion is irrelevant.

I don't post my numbers for a very deliberate reason, my MCAT is sub 30. I don't have the patience to wade through a bunch of "you should quit now" posts from pre-meds who think they are adcoms.

I am actually trying to save you a lot of money in therapy bills.

I am blunt by nature. Life is hard, get a helmet and all that.

Your position was asinine, I am not going to call a spade anything other than a spade.

dude lay off. Who's being childish now? The OP may be a litle naive but that is all...at least they were polite about it. And if/when you get accepted to whatever med school would take such a bitter person...I hope you're treated the same way you treat others a**hole. Later😎.

but... nobody has agreed with you so far. so maybe a lot of people don't agree with you. i think what you're failing to understand is that people's stats are their own private business and YOU don't have a right to DEMAND to know them. if they want to share it, great. if they don't, there's really no need to whine about it.

The only reason you have had a bad experience isn't because you have shown your stats or even that you have high stats but because you're posting in threads like "Anyone else with no interviews?" and saying stuff like "I only have interviews from Case Western and Vanderbilt, but they don't count because they're automatic." There's a lot of posters with MDApps and high stats that get zero flak.

Why don't you go back to the pill pusher forum, dude?

Enjoy your banning!

1.) I've been accepted to an allopathic program. Again, not going to post my stats.

2.) I can fight my own battles (especially on an internet forum) without having to enlist anyone else to come and fight for me. (Strange how you just showed up).

3.) I don't give two damns about your opinion.

Why are you guys hating on this person so much? Grow, up they're just stating an opinion. She/he would love an SDN where everyone posted their true stats, but that just isn't the case since not everyone is as open as the OP. So just deal with it and move on. Later 😎.

No one is "hating on" your friend.

She posted an opinion, we've posted ours. In the end, most everything on here is opinion and conjecture.

It's an internet forum. You are acting like we have dumped cold water on this person during their morning shower or slashed their tires.

I'll be civil, but I am not going to tiptoe around people who obviously are in need of some thicker skin.

So true. Half the people here are insane.

I remember people hating on an Electrical Engineer with a 3.3/32 and telling him to get a masters because his GPA was too low. Others were telling him to just quit. Ridiculous.

sheesh...I wish I'd never opened this can of worms. And yes some people do agree with me (I've received 3 PMs in the last hour and a half--2 of them agreed with me one of them didn't to be honest). So I'll just vent my frustrations to those people who agree with me. Toodles, and i'm not coming back to this thread.

🙂

Aside from your recruit and the anonymous and unvarifiable e-mails you've received, not a single person has bought into your position that people should be compelled to share their private information.

Sorry your feelings were hurt, that wasn't really my intent.

Good luck with your application and surrounding yourself with people that agree with you.

Those people that actually took the time to send you PM's about this truly are neurotic *****s.

Great, you got a few idiots to agree with you, want a cookie? Oh wait, you're not coming back
