Why I want to be a doctor.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
1. Isn't this way too long? If it is over 1 page it's too long. People have to read hundreds if not thousands of these. Make it short but memorable.
1. Don't use expression like "bro-hug". 70 year old, grouchy old dudes are going to be reading these. What do you think they will think of someone who uses such expressions?
2. You absolutely did not focus enough on yourself and what qualities you have that will make you a decent doctor. The military angle is great but you went too far into it.

@tiedyeddog Don't encourage this or these threads will be the entirety of Pre-Allo in a couple months.

@DoctoringwithV Here is last year's thread. Look for something similar in the next few weeks and then send your PS only to people who have volunteered to read in the new thread.

You can't spend so many of your precious characters talking about someone else. If you're going to tell a story about someone else, get the point quick and then get back to you. Oh and the "bro-hug" thing will not go over well for you.

'pick up the heavy burden of medical school' sounds a little too self-sacrificing. IMO I think med schools want to matriculate candidates that are excited to be there.

This personal statement is no longer yours. I've now taken it and made it my own. I've copy pasted it into MY AMCAS. ALL YOUR BRO HUGS ARE BELONG TO US. That was your first mistake.

Refer to other posts for your other mistakes.

(I actually didn't bother to read it, but I would highly getting a few people you TRUST to read your essay. Not the interwebs.)

Also, for the love of all that is personal statement worthy, please read my guide on the basics of writing this thing. Sounds like 1 page of story-telling about your best high school friends and brother is not a personal statement. It's an autobiography of your adolescence.

Keep the part about the bro hug. It's the best part. And besides, you don't wanna go to a school that doesn't appreciate you for your brotastic self

Didn't read it, but I would highly recommend deleting it and asking if anyone would read your personal statement instead. Cause dude, if I liked it and was reapplying I could totally steal it. Don't be dumb.
Edit: I started to read it and realized you need to proofread my friend. Errors, errors everywhere.

caffeinemia Are you allowed to advertise your services on here?

I don't see where you can point out any price figures - not even on my guide. Nor did I ever solicit any job from you. In fact, I recommended you get trusted readers to help, not the interwebs. However, if my signature offends you, I suggest you not seek professional help in exchange for massages. It's not a fair exchange for your hands anyway...

I'm confused. You say that this isn't your personal statement but then you say you're going to keep "bro hug" because you're not concerned about pleasing adcoms and other personal statements have said far weirder things. Is it your PS or not?

I hope you didn't think my comment was cynical or rude---I was honestly just trying to help!

If you were an Adcom and all other things being equal would you rather take the person who is thrilled/excited about medicine and going to med school or the person who sees it as a heavy burden that they have to sacrifice their happiness for?

The military angle is great but you went too far into it.
