A friend of mine who applied last year didn't do his Davis interview until late-May and did not hear until late July, at which point he had decided to go elsewhere and turned it down. So I guess this is typical. Something for me to look forward to next application cycle, I guess 🙁
And cbpremed, I spent last summer at Davis doing research so I'll share my impressions, though I am sure Moskeeto and others can tell you lots more. I am an urban person and I enjoyed Davis for the most part, though in the summer there was almost no one around. I was busy working during the week so I wasn't looking to go out much on weekdays. The town is cute and I found it easy to shop and stuff. People were pretty friendly in the complex I lived in. There is a great farmer's market, I enjoyed the pool and rec center on campus, and eating at In-N-Out. I did go home to San Francisco most weekends and it is definitely not a bad drive, like 75 miles. The absolute most it ever took was like 2+ hours door-to-door in Friday night rush-hour traffic. Berkeley is under an hour if you like the East Bay. I am not sure how easy it would be to get away while in med school. I was not that thrilled with Sacramento... lots of subdivisions and strip malls, but I did get to go to some cool concerts and WNBA games there. It's definitely not SF or LA but it has stuff going on. I enjoyed Davis for 2-3 months, not sure how I would do for 4 years... my cousins go/went there for undergrad and seem ready to move on. So it might get boring, but my overall vibe was good, especially if you're busy with school. Hope that helps a bit 🙂
