Although I've heard people say that hydrolysis is an "alteration" of oxidation, I recently went over a passage and saw that the answer explained how hydrolysis is in fact not a part of oxidation at all. I learned that oxidation was either the addition of O or taking away of H on a carbon?

Let me ask you a question. Does oxidation state of any of the atoms change in hydrolysis.

For example, hydrolysis of an ester to carboxylic acid in acid. Does any of the atoms change in oxidation state? Think about that, you will figure out.
