Why is it called the dorsal lithotomy position

I'm on urology right now and he asked me the historical significance of why it is called the dorsal lithotomy position. He mentioned that dorsal referenced where the incision was initially made for lithotomy, though I could have misheard him. He said that few students have found the correct answer on the internet. One article I found mentioned that lithotomy was initially done by incision through the perineum-this was not the right answer. Another article said that they could go through the vagina-but this also isn't correct. I'm interested to see what you all think.

Nephrolithotomy was originally performed via a transperineal approach.

Edit: I see you already mentioned this. I believe this is the right answer.
