Why is it such a pain to apply to MSUCOM?

I mean, its a great school and all, but why the hell do they make you do all these extra forms etc?

My biggest problem is the instructions for my evaluator. I don't want to inconvience him anymore with this stupid thing.

😡

any 2005 accepted applicants care to chime on this (particularly any out of staters)?

I hear yah. I just received the supplementary application via email today. It is so freeking troublesome. A couple of the questions will be hard for my evaluator as I've had only 2 classes with her. Being an out-of-stater I feel like all that trouble is going to be for nothing. I'm going to have to think on this one, whether I should fill it out or not. It's a waste to have paid for the primary application not to fill out the secondary. Tough!

Ahhh, memories of MSUCOM's secondary application... 👎
That application was the most complicated I ever filled out! But in the end, it was worth it!
It makes it even more of a headache that they have each page of the 10-page app as a separate file, it's just like downloading a migraine.
Watch for the deadline, it's something like 30-days from when they send the app.
It's a weeding out process, especially for out-of-state applicants. Same as the cost of the school and...well...the cost of the school...

I actually didn't think it was that bad. And one of my evaluators already sent in his stuff (his actually got there before mine!!). Just as a reminder, in the instructions it clearly states that as long as the evaluator fills out sections 1 and 5 (or whatever the last one is), they can attach their letter to the form. The form is important because on the first page is the waiver you have to sign.

To be absolutely correct this is what my secondary instructions say (I just received it today)
"3. Is it okay for my advisor to attach a recommendation letter to your form? Yes, if s/he completes the front page of the form, indicates an overall rating, and signs the form. However, if the attached letter does not clearly follow the assessment areas of the form, the Admissions Committee will not review the contents of the letter."

Furthermore, my deadline says August 8th. I thought that secondaries didn't have to be in until like March! The sooner the better! There is only one essay prompt, which I thought was cool. Good luck to everyone

You should have all your secondaries in by September, October at the very latest to beat the Aug MCAT-takers. Still I'd get everything in by mid-August, interview invites go out around then.
Last year I interviewed in the late half of October and was accepted a week later.

I ended up not filling out that secondary. One of my evaluators didn't want to deal with that, and he asked me to write it first. I didn't want to go through the trouble either so I didn't do it.

I don't think it's too bad except that I just got it today and the deadline is AUGUST 5th!! Two weeks to get it there?? I have to mail the form w/my original signature across the state and then have my evaluator mail it to MSUCOM. Gah. Stress.

dr.z - sorry to hear that you're not applying. all the best luck this year in your apps!

hoberto - good luck with that, applications suck 👎
do your best and keep the goal in mind!

I need help. In the instruction for recommendation it says committee and/or premedical advisor. Does it absolutely has be from a premedical advisor? Can I substitute it for another science professor? My premedical advisor hasn't return my emails since accepting to write me a LOR. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

You should call Kathie Schafer, the Director of Admissions. She's awesome, I met her for a few minutes at my interview and she remembered me when I called weeks later. Just call the office and ask to talk to her, I'm sure she'll give you the information you need.
In the meantime, try to get in touch with your pre-med advisor/committee. Other schools will require this and it can be extremely difficult to get to the next step without this letter. By email, phone, post, or car...do what you must, whatever's in your power to contact them.
Best of Luck! 👍

Is anyone else waiting for the MSUCOM secondary to arrive???

Yeah, but my AACOMAS was just released last week. One of my schools took 2 weeks to sent out the transcripts (and I followed up with them 3 times).

I'm a MI resident, so MSUCOM is a major focus of mine.
