Why isn't it D for this PAT problem?

Bootcamp PAT #51 of the practice set. the solution says that D is too thin but I actually thought E was too wide.

Also, I keep narrowing it down to 2 choices and then pick the wrong one at the end. Any tips?

It can't be A because of that little cube which should cause that second step that is missing in choice A. That second "step" is in choice E. It's coming from the little cube.
 
I think the size is perfect. What am I not seeing here? Here I uploaded another file with the colored in rectangle and the corresponding parts in the original picture. Does that not look the same size to you?

Size is not good.

The thickness of the thin flat structure is approx. 3x thinner than the thicker flat structure with the protruding cube structure.
