I was supposed to interview at West Virginia Univ. tomorrow (March 8). I could not afford to fly, so I booked a Greyhound ticket to take me to Pittsburgh, PA from somewhere in Missouri. My bus was supposed to leave at 4:40 am today. I literally did not sleep all through the night so that I could catch my bus, and when I got there the station was closed. There was, however, a handwritten note saying that the bus to St Louis - which was the bus I was supposed to take - would still be leaving at 4:40. I stayed at that wretched station in below freezing temperatures from 4:40 until 7 o'clock, and the bus never came!
I called Greyhound's number, and spoke to a disgrace to the human species. This wretched organism just told me to wait and that the bus was late. I asked for the number of the Greyhound station that the bus was supposed to be leaving from (Tulsa, OK) and called it, but it was busy. When I called the humanoid that had been telling me to wait, she said, "Call the station later." (I had been calling the station on and off from 5 to 6!). I told her that I had an interview that would determine the next 4 years of my life, and that I may not be able to make it to said interview now. And she said, like the automaton she was, "Greyhound regrets any inconvenience." I got mad at her and hung up.
I finally left the station at 7 o'clock, after waiting for 2 hours and 20 minutes. When I got to my room, I called, and spoke to another person, who finally had the decency to tell me that the bus to St Louis had been canceled because of severe weather at a point on the bus' route.

Why couldn't Greyhound have said so before? There was no notification on its website, and their local station said that the bus would still be leaving. And why couldn't the agent I spoke to have told me that before? Why does severe weather happen only on my interview weekends? I had to reschedule my Creighton interview, and now I'm rescheduling my WVU interview as well because of severe weather (I called the school, and they said they would reschedule it. I haven't got the new date yet). Why? Why?

To quote the band "Travis":
Why does it always rain on me?
Is it because I lied when I was seventeen?
Why does it always rain on me?
Even when the sun is shining, I can't escape the lightning
Oh, where did the blue sky go?
Why is it raining so?
It's so cold

This is exactly how I feel right now.

At least the school will reschedule it. I hope you'll be much more luckier on the interview.

Personally, I know one person whose life was full of bad luck. However, the hard time made him try so hard and IMO that was one of the reason of his success.

Anyway, it happened so do not let it hold you back.

I hope you luck and thing will be fine.

I'm sorry to hear this! I hope your future interview will go well! Maybe you can borrow some money to have a flight ticket to your interview.

I do feel your pain. But trust me when i say, that there is always a blessing behind such disappointments. It is possible that had you interviewed today, things would not have worked out for you.

But i tell you, i have had some horrible customer service experiences with greyhound. So i can definitely relate.

keep your head up.

Let me share this with you.

I had miscalculated the number of credits i had when i applied to ACP accelerated program; i didn't have enough. So i submitted my app for early decision. However, one of my transcripts did not arrive Pharmcas in time. (In reality, a confusion with my first name confused their reps and they did not add that transcript into my file. Consequently, i was knocked off the early decision list.)

The name thing was figured out and the transcript sent. But i was to be considered for regular admission now. This delay, as upset as it made me when it happened, turned out to be my blessing. I would most likely have been rejected due to insufficient credits and would have missed the opportunity for entry this year.

So you see, there are elements at work that role tape to ensure that the disappointment now is tomorrow's glorious blessing.

Good thing you are getting it rescheduled. Do get on the phone with them and ensure that it is done. Obstacles are opportunities for enhancing resilience and augmenting our determination.

at least u got to reschedule!
👍

OK thats a sad story and all... but lets not start quoting "Travis"... that just adds insult to injury.

things will work out...i bet you will get accepted..you can tell them your ordeal in your interview and tell them how much you want to get into their school.....

ah yes, music elitism is exactly what this thread was needing. maybe he should have quoted a bob dylan lyric instead? to the original poster: stick with it, hardships in life will only make you stronger. I'm sure you'll be even more determined with your interview now. Good luck.

Let's try Tim McGraw, then...

Are you hungry?
Are you thirsty?
Is it a fire that burns you up inside?
How bad do you want it?
How bad do you need it?
Are you eating, sleeping, dreaming
With that one thing on your mind?
How bad do you want it?
How bad do you need it?
Cause if you want it all
You've got to lay it all out on the line

That is bad luck. But you can pick yourself up and know that you'll get there despite the obstacles that get thrown in you way.

The school I interviewed at yesterday called on Thursday afternoon and left a message about rescheduling due to the bad weather. Fortunately, I was already on the way. Just like they can't control the weather at the place you are hoping to attend (Houston in this case), you can't control the weather on your interview day.

Good luck with your rescheduled interview. 👍

I know this must be a trying experience. If you look on the other thread, I am having one of my own right now. Just know that things will work out as they are meant too, and the fact that the schools will reschedule means they still want to talk to you! Be positive because for all of the work and struggles you have gone through, great things will come back to you! As my title line referencing Rascal Flatts lyrics states in these moments you define who you are, and the next few lines go, then you STAND! You will make it, and all the best in getting in to the school you desire!🙂

make this expeirence something to talk abt at ur interview in a good way...show them how u didnt give up..u stayed motivated..and these things just made u stronger
and yes EVERYTHING tht happens happens for ur good...maybe if u had gone that day something "bad" wud have happend....
but these things happen to everyone..just stay strong. 🙂

thats a sad situation. but if you can afford to apply to school and all i'm sure u can afford a plane ticket. im sure u have credit card on which u can charge it. this is for ur future so don't rely on a bus that who knows will make it on time or not.
you got another chance b/c the school rescheduled. so make it worth it for ur future.

i really like your travis quote. don't worry, everything happens 4 a reason. thats so funny that that happened 2 u cuz i had to take a greyhound from tallahassee to ft. lauderdale for my nova interview and it was supposed to leave at 5:50 am, but my dumb self hit snooze on my alarm and didnt wake up til 6:15 am. i thought i missd the bus and had my sis race me over there but fortunately the bus was late and was just about to part. and i'm the one who usually asks "why me" cuz i usually have bad luck. but eventually u will find that if it's God's will He will make sure it happens. don't lose faith.

p.s. u don't have a credit card to buy a flight ticket? next time go on priceline.com. u can bid for a ticket for 1/2 price the only thing is that i recommend that u schedule the flight a day ahead because it won't tell u what time the flight is until u pruchase it. good luck! :luck:

Thanks, everyone. Believe me, if I had a credit card, I would have charged it and bought a plane ticket. I applied for two and got rejected by both because I have no credit (I am an international student). And I really could not afford the plane ticket. The entire application process has set me back over $2,000, and that does not include travel expenses.
And speaking of Travis, the song I quoted above is the only one of theirs that I've heard. However, it really sums up my feelings. It just seems right now like I'm the only one that bad stuff happens to. I only hope the interview goes better. It has to, right?

I'm still trying to figure out why quoting Travis is "adding insult to injury."

They're trying to say that the lyrics make the situation worse- perhaps they don't like the lyrics or the band.

Your situation definitely sucks, but it could have been worse- you could have been hit by a Greyhound bus or something like that, so don't stress too much.

If it's possible, can you take the bus the day before your interview and stay in a hotel that night so that you won't be too rushed and devoid of sleep? Talk to your family or friends about it. Maybe someone would be willing to drive you. Just try to have a back-up plan. If X doesn't work, you can do Y instead.

To the OP, I know it's tough. We all do. Everyone on this board has encountered or endured some type of setback or hardship along the way. As someone said earlier, keep your head up. You still have your health, your life and your friends around. It's also a very good thing you were able to reschedule your interview (some schools don't do that, regardless of the situation).

On the flipside, now you have a great story to discuss concerning communication problems (and how it relates to the world of pharmacy) at your interview. You can thank me later.

It's Greyhound, enough said. Should have booked a private charter jet with limo service to the airport.

just out of curiosity... if you don't even have the credit to apply for credit cards.. how the heck r u going to pay for pharmacy school? you won't even qualify for FAFSA since you're an international student..... :scared:

That's what cosigners are for...

I am not sure how much you looked into that, but I hope your cosigners are permanent residents (or citizens) or they have bank statements that show you can pay full tuition. My ex in undergrad is an international student and his parents had to do this since international students (to the best of my knowledge) are not eligible for loans. If you have already figured this out, then feel free to disregard 🙂
