Any tips on how to write a strong essay when a school is asking why you are applying to that school??
I want to make it sound passionate and not just like any other essay. Obviously I will research and include specific details about the program but how do I make this essay stand out and really convince them I want to attend their program and am doing more than just repeating what is on their website?

Use what is on their website but focus on why that is important to you. For example- if strong research, talk about why you think that is important/how you want to be involved/how that mixes with your past experiences. If small class size, talk about how that is the environment you thrive in. If service aspect, talk about why service is important to you/your education/your goals. Basically personalize all their points.

If you're able to, if the school is close to you, I would recommend visiting the school. I met with Northwestern's faculty and did a "visit day" there prior to applying so I have a ton of things to talk about in regards to why I wanted to go to that school over another. I specifically referenced their large class size, relationships with faculty and alumni, updated facilities, research project, and the overall vibe of the school (I obviously didn't say vibe.. lol but I'm not entirely sure exactly what I said). After visiting the school, this was the easiest essay to write. I would try to focus on what makes them different from other programs and then elaborate on why that is a good fit for you.
