Little i know from just web-browsing thru the the school's website. How do i explain/say to them when they ask ...WHY our school!!!..? When my general answer is just "i 'll go to any school because my main goal is to become a dentist". What are the committees lookng for from this particular question?? what to say what to say!!!!!!!!...arghh! help!
-Meharry, Western, Minnesota!!

thanks to all .

I'd assume that they'd want to know why their school in particular- think location, more clinical, new technology... Invest some time looking into their school. The schools probably want to admit someone in the school who will accept as opposed to being rejected by students.

All you have to do is some research on the particular school the week before interview. Go on their site and read their mission statement, their facilities and whatever. But keep note those things that they seem to be the most proud of, like excellent clinics, or great patient base, or high specializing rates whatever, and just memorize and vomit it back to them during your interview to win.

most schools are on the same level I am guessing so they want to know why you would go to their school over another.

Most schools have a very similar mission statement - that being dedication to research, education, and community service. Some schools also specialize in certain things, UCSF is big in research, Meherry and Howard focus on URM higher education and community outreach. Other schools have particular things that aren't necessarily listed on their mission statement that they're proud of - like the large special needs department at Pitt for example.

Your base foundation for the "why this school" question will be the same for just about all schools, refer to the mission statement and how that resonates with you, and then go into particular things about them that you find interesting, and attracts you to them. Definitely don't mention that you just want to be a dentist, they know that already. And if you just say that you want to go to any school, even if it's true, I could easily see them get insulted by that, so again, a big no no.

thanks everyone for the replies!!........i just found my answer for Meharry....thanks a lot
